Signed for Arsenal in one of the most controversial transfers in recent memory from bitter North London rivals Spurs in 2001. Campbell was a rock at the back for the Gunners during their 2003/4 ‘Invincible’ season and was widely regarded to be the best centre half in the top flight at the time. Fast, powerful and with a fantastic recovery tackle on him, he marshalled a superb Arsenal defence and went onto win 2 league titles and 3 FA Cups at during his first spell at the club. Interestingly, in Sol Campbell’s whole career, not one club has ever paid a fee for him, despite the player moving clubs on six separate occasions.
