Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish could be set to make a move for Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy, according to reports in the Guardian.
Despite completing the £20 million signing of Jordan Henderson from Sunderland, the Anfield club look set to continue their summer spending spree by moving for the 25-year old. Liverpool are in the hunt for a left-sided defender having been forced to play Glen Johnson and Jack Robinson in the position due to the injury problems of Fabio Aurelio whilst Paul Konchesky made a disappointing start to his Liverpool career and was sent out on loan to Nottingham Forest.
The club have already been linked with moves for Jose Enrique at Newcastle and Celtic’s Player of the Season Emilio Izaguirre. However, Clichy is entering the final year of his contract and, having rejected a new deal, Arsenal could be keen to cash in on the player rather than lose him for nothing next summer.
Clichy has made 264 appearances for The Gunners since his move from Cannes in the summer of 2003. The French international has 10 caps for France to his name and could be available for as little as £5 million. He has also been linked with Manchester City and a number of European clubs, including Inter Milan, Juventus and Bayern Munich.
