Arsenal News: Emirates stadiumAfter an opening day that produced disappointing draws for both teams this game will be an early must win in the hunt for Manchester United’s title.

Arsenal huffed and puffed but failed to muster that vital goal in a 0-0 with Newcastle whilst Liverpool spurned numerous chances as they squandered their lead to draw 1-1 with Sunderland.

The Gunners will be without Gervinho after his sending off against Newcastle whilst Alex Song is also suspended after being given a ban for stamping on Joey Barton. Jack Wilshere could return from an ankle injury although Abou Diaby, Johan Djourou and Kieran Gibbs will all miss out. Glen Johnson could return for Liverpool but might be consigned to the bench after the performance of youngster John Flanagan.

After a spending spree Kenny Dalglish is under pressure to get instant results that will justify the huge outlay and a win against Arsenal is certain to get the Anfield faithful purring. Those at the Emirates will look on with envious eyes as Arsene Wenger has yet again failed to suitably strengthen his team, which has been severely weakened by the loss of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona.

Key Players

Thomas Vermaelen: The big Belgian defender will be key to Arsenal and will be tasked with keeping the little and large combo of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in check.

Luis Suarez: The fiery Uruguayan adds pace and tenacity up front which will be key to Liverpool breaking down Arsenal and harassing their fragile backline.

Verdict: 1-2

Don’t understand the comment in this article on Flanno since he did not have a good match against Sunderland! I wish him well when he does play for us but I won’t say he is doing well when he is not. Last season he did do well for us in the last 6-7 matches where he played. Right now I think Johnson is a better player and so is Kelly.

I don’t thing Flanno had a perfect game against Sunderland, but I thought he performed admirably after being put under a lot of pressure as Sunderland targeted him. Nevertheless he is still 3rd choice behind Kelly and Johnson.
