Villa secured a decent draw away at Fulham last week and will be confident of victory in front of a home crowd. Blackburn on the other hand suffered a disappointing defeat at home to Wolves and manager Steve Kean will be looking for his side to bounce back.

Alex McLeish’s first game in charge at Villa Park is sure to divide the fans but his players did well to hold out at Craven Cottage last week, which is no easy task. Rovers were poor against Wolves and will need to be better defensively if they are going to take anything away from their trip to Birmingham.

Granted they did have an inexperienced defensive pairing of Grant Hanley and Steven N’Zonzi, which wasn’t perfect against a plucky Wolves side. Chris Samba and Ryan Nelsen were injured for that game but both could return against Villa on Saturday.

The home side on the other hand have only one concern with Shay Given struggling with a groin injury although he is expected to make his home debut along with Charles N’Zogbia.

Key Players

Charles N’Zogbia: looked dangerous on his Aston Villa debut last week and will be looking to impress the Villa Park faithful on his home debut.

Paul Robinson: The Blackburn keeper will have to be on top of his game to keep out Villa who will certainly be on the offensive in their first home game of the season.

Verdict: 2-0
