Adam Johnson could be on his way out of Manchester City with the People reporting that Sunderland manager Steve Bruce wants to bring him back home.

Johnson’s future at Manchester City is far from certain after he played a bit-part role last season with manager Roberto Mancini looking to add another wide midfielder ahead of the new season.

He moves to the Etihad Stadium for an undisclosed fee in January 2010 but has dropped down the pecking order since then and could be set to move in search of first team football.

It’s believed that Bruce has already been in touch with City he contemplates a loan move for the 24-year-old.

The Black Cats boss tried and failed to sign the England winger when he was at Middlesbrough but couldn’t compete with City’s financial muscle.

He is searching for a new left sided player after losing the services of former loan star Danny Wellbeck who covered in the position for most of last season.

A permanent transfer would be out of the Sunderland’s means after nine players moved to the Stadium of Light this summer.

However Bruce is keen to bring Johnson back to Wearside after chasing him for the last few years and has received an encouraging response from City.
