Last week was a busy seven days in the world of football, with the media getting ahead of themselves (by about nine months) in discussing whether Fabio Capello will leave Wayne Rooney out of the England 2012 squad after his red card – plenty of time left to run on that.

Elsewhere Liverpool‘s Ian Ayre caused a bit by stating that he feels Premier League clubs should be able to sell their TV rights individually, rather than as a collective. There’s nothing like a bit of self-interest.

Finally Alex McLeish has been singing the praises of Emile Heskey, comparing him to none other than Franz Beckenbauer!

I run a County FA Referee Academy.I have just over thirty rrfeeees aged 14-18,whom take it in turns to referee/be an Assistant. This is our fifth season working with our local League club and their Boys Academy. The Academies (football) aim to coach, advise and progress players and ultimately some will become Apprentice Professionals and beyond. All the matches are FA Development games,no points won or lost,no Leagues.Teams in local Leagues play to win and the quality of football is often poor, with dad’s in kit and shorts emulating the professional game,on the touchline screaming at a youngster who, frankly should be playing to improve his/her skills, not lumping the ball up the pitch or tackling like Norman Hunter on a bad day.I have been in the game over fifty years ..I have seen it all,the Academies generally do a good job.Parents with inflated ego’s,reliving their lost youth don’t !
