Brazilian club Corinthians will make another attempt to sign Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez in January, the Brasileiro club’s director of football Edu has confirmed.

The Argentina international’s time at the Etihad Stadium looks to be coming to a close, as he refused to come off the bench for Roberto Mancini’s men in the Champions League against Bayern Munich.

After Tevez had handed in a transfer request in the summer, Corinthians made a bid to sign their former attacker, and Edu has confirmed that another attempt will be made in the new year.

“It was quite difficult to sign him because at the time it was shortly before our transfer window closed,” the former Arsenal midfielder told Sky Sports.

“Now we are here [in England] and we will talk and see what the situation is and we will look to sign him in the summer.

“I will talk to the president – we offered €40million and now the money we had we have spent some of as that is football.

“We want to see how Tevez is and what his situation is, we will see if we can do a deal – he is very famous in Brazil and everyone loves him, and the fans want him,” he concluded.

With Mancini seemingly sick of Tevez’s petulance a January move looks set to happen, with Juventus and Real Madrid also linked with the South American hitman over the last week.
