FA wait for Rooney decision

The English Football Association have revealed that they are waiting to learn of the sanctions that will be handed down to Wayne Rooney after the striker’s red card against Montenegro on Friday night before considering appeal.

The Manchester United frontman was dismissed after stupidly kicking out at Miodrag Dzudovic in The Three Lions’ 2-2 draw in Podgorica.

The result booked Fabio Capello’s men a place at Euro 2012, but England are set to potentially be without their star striker for at least one game.

Uefa are yet to reveal the length of Rooney’s ban, which could be anywhere from one to three games, and the suspension would start along with the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

Despite the obvious setback, FA director of Communications Adrian Bevington has admitted that they will wait to learn Rooney’s punishment before considering contesting the decision.

“That is something we will have to consider,” he told Sky Sports.

“We obviously have our own legal people looking through the regulations and we are fully up to speed as to where we stand with that.

“But it would be wrong of me to say we will take any kind of action in response to something Uefa haven’t done yet. So let’s see where we get to with Uefa and, if it is a one-game suspension, then we will move on from there,” he concluded.

If Rooney received the maximum penalty of a three match ban, it would mean he would miss the entire group stages of the competition.
