Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has admitted that he is interested in coaching once his playing career finishes, which he feels may be within the next two years.
The 33-year-old is entering the twilight of his playing days, and with increased competition for places at Anfield, may not be guaranteed a regular first team place in the near future.
The decision of when to hang up his boots may be out of his hands however, but Carragher wants to play for as long as he is able.
“Ask Kenny (Dalglish). He picks the team. It will be up to the coaching staff I suppose,” the Reds stalwart told Sky Sports.
“You want to try to get as much out of your career and play as long as possible. The time will come in the next 12, 18 months, maybe two years.
“That won’t be down to myself. It will be down to the people around me, the staff, the manager. They will decide,” he stated.
Despite his time on the pitch being under threat, Carragher still wants to be involved in the game he loves after retirement.
“Do I want to go in to coaching or management? Yes, I think so.
“I’ve taken my first steps to coaching and the B licence. We all love the game, you want to stay involved in the game,” he concluded.
Carragher’s reading of the game and dedication whilst playing it has led to many stating that he has the characteristics of a future manager, but he will be focussed on helping Liverpool in their search for honours for the time being.

The last thing any football club wants is a team of HOOFERS. For someone who is not only technically inept, but is also totally devoid of a football brain, Jamie “Hoofer” Carragher should not even have embarked on a football career to begin with let alone go into the management after his retirement. For crying out loud, leave the management of football to those who know how the game is to be played.

I have to agree with Miles here, Carragher should not be allowed to take his coaching badges, it’s time for dinosaurs like him to be kicked out of the game.
As a role model he awful, whining at Ref’s, awful tackler, and one of the biggest cheats in the game today, he should hang up his boots and run a pub.
