Wenger: ‘Half the dressing room wanted to leave’

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated that the club went through a difficult summer, as half the dressing room wanting to leave, and that players go to Manchester City purely for financial gain.

The comments come in the wake of Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri trading the Emirates for the Etihad Stadium, with both stipulating that they have moved to Roberto Mancini’s team to win trophies.

Despite the fact that Arsenal haven’t won a trophy since 2005, the French coach feels money is the dominant force in the players’ decision making process.

“No, it’s not that [players wanting to win titles],” he told French radio station RTL.

“The problem isn’t that. Frankly, if you compare what Manchester City have won in the past and what Arsenal have won, then you don’t go to Manchester City to win titles. Players go to Manchester City because they pay much better than Arsenal.

“There’s always a financial logic behind who ends up being successful in any league. If Barcelona or Real Madrid paid three times less than Malaga, players would go to Malaga,” he stated.

With Cesc Fabregas also leaving the North London club in the transfer window, Wenger has confirmed that it was a busy and difficult time for the club.

“It was a very difficult summer because half the dressing room wanted to leave.

“You’re preparing for a season where you don’t know who’s going to come in, the players who are staying are asking themselves what’s going on at the club, you’ve got a pre-season tour of Asia.

“It was extraordinarily difficult. What saved us is that we’re a club that are extremely solid and united. Other clubs would surely have gone to pieces in those circumstances,” he concluded.

The tribulations of which Wenger speaks can be accounted for The Gunners’ poor start to the season, however slowly but surely things are starting to look up for Arsene Wenger’s men.

Van Persie has 18 months left on his contract and will move on for around £25 – £28 million at the end of this season.

    The reasons for this are:

He has seen our best players leave the club.

Our lack of investment of star/top quality players coming in. (poor signings).

Stan Kronke ……….. No interest in our club, our fans, our team. (this guy only cares about adding to his millions)…….. GET OUT OF OUR CLUB.

the running of the club has become a joke to just about everyone. (the most expensive tickets around) and yet we are now a selling club and then off to the bargain basement.

I do hope that all Arsenal fans make a call to bring in USMANOV and DEIN and turn our club back around. Otherwise we will slowly fade as a club which has obviously already started.

I dont want Van Percie to come to Man City cause I prefer every club to keep their best players- but unfortunately this is what happens in football and it’s been the way for a hundred years. Arsenal were known as “The Bank of England” because of their great wealth and they became a real force due to their buying power. Until Arsenal dig into their pockets they will struggle. Does Wenger get bonus on profits? I guess yes.

And there, in a nutshell, is why Arsenal will never compete for the Title under Wenger. I’m no City fan, but frankly comparing previous trophies when you’re buying Arteta and Man City are buying Aguero shows exactly why Nasri felt he had to move. Apparently, you don’t stay at Arsenal to win trophies, something Wenger will learn again when Van Persie leaves in the Summer

I think this is not the best time to cry over “spilled milk” but forget about clichy & samir for they have gone for good….& concentrate more on winning game as they come. The more games we win the more confidence we build. Gunners for life!!!

    Marseile vs Arsenal LIVE Link
The problem for Arsenal is that how do you keep hold of RVP, Van Persie and co. They only have a few months remaining on their contracts.
