Mick McCarthy pleased with important win

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has spoken of his happiness at his side’s 3-1 win over Wigan on Sunday, which lifts the Molineux outfit up to 13th in the table.

Goals from Jamie O’Hara, David Edwards and Stephan Ward sealed the victory for the Midlands club, with a Ben Watson strike the only ray of light for the visitors.

The three points ends a run of six games without a victory in all competitions for McCarthy’s men, and the coach feels it was an important result.

“It’s a huge result for us, we’ve both been struggling of late and for us to get three points against our competitors at the bottom just now then that’s important. It’s a great result,” he told Sky Sports after the game.

“I always think the players go about their jobs in a right and proper manner and they’ve done it again today.

“You know we winged it a bit – it was nervy, they had chances, we had chances – we’ve took our three, they’ve got a penalty.

“So I am delighted for the players because we’ve all been getting a bit of stick but I said ‘win the game and it changes it all around doesn’t it’ and that’s what’s happened,” he concluded.

Wolves now take on Everton at Goodison Park next weekend, whilst bottom club Wigan have a six pointer against fellow strugglers Blackburn at the DW Stadium next.
