This week has been something of a disaster for Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson. Man United failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, something which is usually taken as a given at the start of the season, after losing 2-1 to Basel. United now face the prospect of a Europa League campaign, but things got even worse on Wednesday night.

Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic has been ruled out for the season with a ruptured cruciate knee ligament, which will be a huge blow to Man United’s Premier League title push. Here is Vidic being carried off on a stretcher on Wednesday night with his eyes shut as he can’t even look at his injured knee, but what is Nemanja thinking?
