Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has admitted that his side were not professional in this season’s Champions League, and after elimination must now look in the mirror.

The Old Trafford outfit were eliminated from the competition at the hands of Benfica and Basel, with the latter clinching second place in Group C after a 2-1 win over The Red Devils on Wednesday night.

The France international feels his team need to focus, and that their season can still be salvaged.

“We have to be honest and say we haven’t been professional from the beginning of this competition. I don’t know why,” he told Sky Sports.

“Maybe one or two of us have to look in the mirror and say we can do a lot better than we have done.

“Everyone. And I am the first.

“We have got to get back and get focused on the Premier League. That’s the target – to win the Premier League.

“We must make sure we don’t throw the season away.

“We still have things to win and must make sure we play with heart,” he concluded.

United are still five points behind rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings.
