Tottenham have received a defensive boost going into the new year, as Michael Dawson has returned to training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury.

The England international picked up an Achilles knock earlier in the campaign, and after playing only twice this term underwent surgery back in November.

The centre half has revealed his relief to finally be able to get back involved with his team-mates, and is eyeing a return to action in 2012.

“It felt great to be out there again,” Dawson told the club’s official website.

“It’s been a difficult few months, firstly getting to the bottom of the Achilles injury and eventually going for the operation in November. It’s been great since then.

“I’ve been back outside for the last couple of weeks doing my fitness work and it’s fantastic to train with the lads again. It’s been a tough time.

“I’m a footballer and I want to be out there training, not stuck in the gym recovering from injury. As I’ve said all along, you tend to take it all for granted when you are fit.

“I came through the session OK, everything’s fine and I can’t wait for the next step, being back out there playing again,” he concluded.
