Reports in the British press have stated that Tottenham are holding additional talks with key playmaker Luka Modric to try to urge the midfielder to sign an improved contract with the club.
With the January transfer window approaching, The Daily Mail have stated that Harry Redknapp’s men will do everything in their power to tie the Croatia international down to a new contract, amid interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
The diminutive midfielder asked to leave White Hart Lane last summer, with Stamford Bridge his chosen destination, and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy turned down four bids from Andre Villas Boas’ side for Modric.
With the likes of Chelsea sure to offer Modric higher wages than he is currently earning, a new £100,000-a-week contract has been offered by Tottenham to increase his salary, which has been on the table since September.
Despite Tottenham’s excellent domestic form this term that sees the North London club up in third place, Modric is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, and his employers are bracing themselves for more transfer bids come the new year.
Meanwhile, out-of-favour winger Steven Pienaar has been linked with a January loan move back to former club Everton.
The South Africa international has found first team opportunities at White Hart Lane a commodity since joining from The Toffees, and may return to Goodison Park on a temporary basis.

No contract has been offered or even drawn up yet and won’t until spurs see if they qualify for the Champions League. Luka is on a 5 year deal and won’t be sold. This story came from the same media source that ran the chelsea for luka story all last summer. The same paper that kept reporting lies when it kept it in the spotlight with tweaks and ‘exclusive’ updates on the tranfer saga which was never going to happen because the majority of it was lies. The paper in question is the daily mail. An anti-spurs paper who had reporters banned from whl a few seasons ago and have since tried everything in the power to un-settle and be as anti-spurs as they can. Chelsea made a few offers they were all rejected. But the add ons of the story that followed were all made up just like this latest outburst. When will they learn to report actual news rather than made up bull sh#t?! An then sites like this regurgitate this rubbish. Its poor journalism at its peak! Man utd need midfielders, who’s the best at present in england..add two and two together..wow! A 5 year old could come up with this! Terrible!
