Liverpool fall victim to band-wagon journalism

Over the past weeks I’ve read and heard a lot from the “holier-than-thou” London-centric media about how Liverpool have set a bad example supporting Suarez and for wearing “those t-shirts” during the warm-up prior to the Wigan game. How Dalglish and Liverpool should have simply (read meekly) accepted the decision of the FA ’s independent commission (they hadn’t got the guts to make a decision on their own), apologize and move on. That Liverpool should have taught Suarez, and all overseas players, about what and what is not acceptable to say to another player in the heat-of-the moment and so and and so forth.

What utter “let’s print this crap so we can sell more newspapers” journalism this truly is. Are we supposed to respect this kind of preaching from those who a few months ago were happily tapping some innocents mobile? I didn’t think so.

What the football media have totally underestimated is just how strong the Liverpool family really is and always will be. When injustice is served up cold, as Liverpool have had to endure again and again over the decades, it unites Liverpool supporters and the team even more strongly. When Liverpool came running onto the field wearing Suarez shirts I couldn’t have been prouder of my team and of Kenny for making a stand against the flawed justice they had been handed down to Suarez.

What the band-wagon media failed to recognize, or acknowledge, was that Liverpool and their fans are totally against racism. Always have been, always will be. Liverpool is a multi-cultural, multi-racial club and proud of it. Just ask the likes of John Barnes who has stated that the FA are guilty of crucifying Suarez.

To say I love Liverpool is an understatement, however, that doesn’t mean I blindly support or condone anything a player may do that is out-of-order i.e. if Downing did indeed hit his ex-girlfriend then he needs to get what’s coming to him, both personally and professionally.

So Liverpool have taken the high-road and decided to accept the decision of the FA’s independent commission. I’m disappointed but respect it but let’s be clear, Liverpool are not the London media’s, or the FA’s, favourite football team and never will be. The media never questioned the hypocrisy of the FA fighting UEFA to reduce Rooney’s violent conduct 3-match ban versus Liverpool’s right to question Suarez’s 8-match ban. And if Terry is found guilty of racism will we see the same level of justice meted out? Don’t hold your breath.

This is the best piece of writing I have read with concern to Suarez case.
Well written, well said, and well justified.

So, to summarize, the media talk about Liverpool. Because Liverpool supports Suarez. Because Suarez “doesn’t talk to blacks”. And you are upset with the media and proud of Liverpool. Nice

The media talk about us Kosio you twit, because we refuse to follow the crowd like sheep (like you actually), and we walk our own way, always have, always will. We a re aworldwide fanbase that has never & will never tolerate racism – we are from all walks of life, all colours, all creeds. We support Luis Suarez whohas NOT been found guilty of racism (even his accusers say he’s not a racist) but of using inappropriate language with racial overtones (in other words you hysterical lemming – he said a word thats unacceptable here – is that clear enough for you, you simpleton?!). No matter wha defence Luis Suarez or Liverpool offered, he was stuffed from the word go – the FA saw the proverbial whipping boy & a golden opportunity to show they could be more proactive on an issue than big, bad FIFA & the evil Sepp Blatter. We & our player have complied with the ban as we have no chance of justice in this hyserical environment, and it gets hysterical lemmings like you off our backs! I will be interested to se what you & your sheep-like bretheren say when John Terry has to face the music for HIS actions. I wonder will he come in for the character assasiation that Luis Suarez & LFC have had to put up with? I wait with baited breath to see if he gets an 8 match ban (needless to say I’m not holding my breath, otherwise my fellow reds will think I’ve become an Evertonian!)

This story has exposed what shallow thinkers the media are. I wouldn’t expect Suarez to get a fair trial from the FA, but you would think that there would be at least one voice in the national media speaking out for Luis, or at least fair play.. For all America’s faults, it wouldn’t happen there, because Hispanics have a powerful political lobby.

    Very well written.

That is it what is was all about. But no matter what comparison one try to make with regards to “other handshakes or the lack of it” incidence the media or other viewers will pull back to the racism issue which overrides the handshake farce issues. These are 2 separate issues. One is FA judgement the other is a handshake protocol.

There’s a lot of “connivery” if there is such a word and theatricals on Evras mug and look at his colleagues hawk eyes set on Suarez as though NOT shaking Evra’s hand is as big a sin as the earlier one Suarez made and was given the 8 match ban.

These are 2 separate issues. Not shaking Evra’s hand was not the issue as then there will be double standards here in comparison to other non handshakes out there . BUT his promise to Dalglish to shake Evra’s hand was another issue but that is LFC internal issue. Not an issue which Fergie should bother about. His not shaking Porto’s managers hand was not a disgrace to Manager’s protocol?. That is just human emotion man, so leave it that way,how can you force a handshake.

The whole thing has been turned into a load of crap by the London Circus media.
