Chelsea have officially signed Gary Cahill from Bolton, and will be immediately available for selection after a protracted transfer saga.

The England international was in the last year of his contract at the Reebok Stadium, and despite summer interest from Arsenal and Tottenham, has decided to move to Stamford Bridge.

The central defender is delighted with the transfer and looking forward to getting started with his new club.

“Chelsea is a massive club, it is a club that looks to win trophies season in season out and it is a big opportunity for me to be a part of that. Opportunities like this you can’t turn down,” he told the club’s official website.

The signing will give Andre Villas Boas’ squad a boost, as the new man is eligible to play in the FA Cup also, as he did not feature in the third round for Bolton.

Cahill will wear the no. 24 shirt and will be in contention to make his debut against Norwich on Saturday.
