QPR have booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Milton Keynes Dons on Tuesday night.

A Danny Gabbidon goal in the second half gave Mark Hughes his first win as manager at the Loftus Road club, and has secured a London derby in the next stage, as QPR take on Chelsea.

Hughes felt that it was important to get a win, and is happy to be off the mark.

“It was important to get that first win,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’m told the FA Cup hasn’t been kind to QPR in recent years, but it’s a competition I’ve enjoyed throughout my career and I’ve always treated it with the respect it deserves.

“I was mindful of that tonight, but first and foremost it was important we got back to winning ways and we did that. I’m sure we’ll build on that performance going forward.

“Given the fact that we hadn’t been able to get a win on the board for a number of weeks it was important we got a result tonight.

“In fairness to the players, it was always going to be a big ask given the schedule of playing two games in three days.

“I think you could see that in some of our play. We huffed and puffed at times, but fair play to the lads, they got the result and we’re in the next round, which we haven’t been for a number of years,” he concluded.
