West Brom have revealed that captain Chris Brunt has broken his ankle and will undergo surgery on Friday.

The Northern Ireland international picked up the injury in the New Years Day clash with Everton at The Hawthorns, and has been undergoing medical tests since.

The Baggies have confirmed that the midfielder’s ankle is broken, and that he will be out of action until March at the earliest.

“Chris Brunt will undergo surgery tomorrow after scans confirmed he fractured his right ankle against Everton,” an official statement reads.

“He will be out for between eight to 10 weeks.”

The news will come as a blow for Roy Hodgson’s men, who rely on Brunt delivery and range of passing as a fulcrum of their attacking play.

The Midlands club are already without Zoltan Gera, who will miss the remainder of the campaign due to a knee injury.
