Sunderland striker Nicklas Bendtner has been banned from driving for 56 days and handed a £660 fine after admitting to speeding.

The Danish forward was clocked doing 104mph in his Porsche back in December, with his case being heard by Newcastle Magistrates on Tuesday.

Although Bendtner was not in attendance, defence lawyer Barry Warburton pleaded the Scandinavian attacker’s case.

“I understand he was going to Newcastle Airport, he was slightly late for a flight and unfortunately he speeded,” Warburton told the court according to The Guardian.

“It was a Saturday morning, there was very little traffic on the road and weather conditions were fine.

“Not withstanding the fact he is in Denmark, he has been absolutely no trouble to anybody. In my respectful submission, your public duty can be discharged by treating him with leniency,” he concluded.

Despite the plea Bendtner’s punishment was upheld, and the player will now not be allowed to drive for almost two months.

This is not the first incident Bendtner has been involved in on the roads, as it is believed that the Dane was lucky to escape serious injury after crashing his Aston Martin back in 2009.
