Arsenal have announced the signing of young Borussia Dortmund midfielder Thomas Eisfeld for a reported fee of £420,000.

The 19-year-old did not make an appearance for the Bundesliga champions’ first team, but has starred at youth level at Signal Iduna Park.

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Eisfeld is someone that the north London club have been monitoring for a while, and is glad to have brought the prospect to The Emirates Stadium.

“Thomas is a player we have liked for some time. We’ve watched him closely this season, where he has excelled for Dortmund’s youth team,” the French coach told the club’s official website.

“He is young but has proven to us that he can play, that he has the attitude and technical ability to be a valuable addition to our squad. We’re very pleased to welcome him to the club and look forward to his contribution in the coming seasons.”

Eisfeld will follow in the footsteps of Tomas Rosicky and Jens Lehmann in making the switch from Dortmund to Arsenal, and is thrilled to move to England.

“I feel very proud to have signed for Arsenal. This is a great club, with many great players, and I’m so happy to be joining Arsenal.

“It’s a real honour to be team mates with the great players at Arsenal, and also training everyday with players like Tomas Rosicky – who I grew up watching play at Dortmund. I will give it everything I have here and do my best to make the manager, players and fans happy.

“I would also like to thank Borussia Dortmund, where I played for the last seven years, for everything they have done for me. I had a great time there, and there were many wonderful coaches who helped me get to where I am today,” he stated.

We’re always in need of more teenage players. I love that we buy young players and mould them.

Just wish that sometimes we could go for the quick fix aswell. I think a balance needs to be achieved and over the last 3-4 seasons we have been replacing top-class players now with top-class prospects. Really could have done with a 20 goals a season out and out striker this year to compliment/cover for RVP.
