It is time Arsene Wenger cut the apron strings

Football FanCast columnist Jordan Green feels it time Wenger cut the apron strings and let Adebayor take his likely fall.

There must come a time when Arsene Wenger declares enough is enough and washes his hands of Emmanuel Adebayor. I'm sure I am not the only one who has grown sick and tired of this player, who has offered little but contradictory statements about his future, and demanded an excessive wage rise that certainly do not befit the Togolese striker.

Wenger must wonder what he has done to deserve such ungrateful sods. Flamini, Hleb and Adebayor; all complete nobodies until Arsene took a chance on them, however all have fallen under the modern day mercenary spell. Adebayor came out a few weeks ago and felt because some halfwit had dared to compare his importance to the team to Thierry Henry that his wages should seek parity - maybe when you score over 200goals for the club then such demands can be made Ade.

It was reported on Monday that on Adebayor's return to pre-season that he refused to declare his future to the club. With the club refusing to bow down to his demands and break their wage structure, the club is subsequently left with an unhappy player, who will jump at the first opportunity. His friend Thierry Henry; who rather than offer Adebayor a few words of wisdom to stay at the club, decided to sit on a rather large fence:

"It is up to him. He knows his mind. I can't talk for him and I don't know what his choice will be, but that's what happens to you when you have a great year." Guardian

You would think that Thierry Henry himself would know more than most about the pitfalls of moving on to what is perceived as greener grass.

So I ask the question to Arsene Wenger of what is the purpose of keeping this bad egg at the football club? We need players who want to play for the shirt and give everything for the cause. Our two best players last season, Gael Clichy and Bacaray Sagna all signed new contracts in the summer with no hesitation, understanding the direction the club is taking and realising that there aren't many bigger or better in Europe.

If Adebayor thinks the grass is greener elsewhere then let him join the likes of Pires, Viera, Henry, Overmars, Petit and Edu in trying to find it - I certainly won't be losing any sleep over him. There are damn sight better strikers than him around.

Agree Jordan, he thinks he
Agree Jordan, he thinks he is something he is not and we dont need that sort of destructive influence at the club.

He has got his heart on
He has got his heart on playing elsewhere so you right we need to move on, time is ticking ahead of the new season and we must start bringing players in now.

Am I the only Arsenal fan
Am I the only Arsenal fan who is getting tired of Henry and his constant statements he makes about the club. The author is right he should be encouraging Ade to stay, but the fact he isn't and that worries me.

The reason AW doesn't want
The reason AW doesn't want to cut the apron strings is Ade is not like Petit/Ov'mars/Viera/Pires - his best is yet to come & Wenger knows that which is why he doesn't want to sell him. Don't know why AW's worried as according to you there's "strikers which are a damn sight better than him" Really - Why don't you name them then ???

Why don't you all get real.
Why don't you all get real. There is no one left in football today who will play for the shirt. Every professional player is a mercenary out themselves. I am friends with a player who's dream came true to become a big name with a top club. He has supported and loved the club since we were kids. This is also a top top club which does win trophies (So that rules out Spurs). Whilst I know that his love for his club was genuine and heartfelt, when a chance to move on for more money came along he took it without hesitation. He justified this to me as "I will always be a supporter in my heart, and will have many years of being a supporter in the stands when I'm finished as a player. For now I need to earn the money." This said it all to me. A big wake up call that said there is no loyalty in Professional football. As a kid and a supporter you dream of playing and winning only for your team. As a profesional you dream only for the next big contract. These are the cold hard facts.

If Wenger as much as hinted
If Wenger as much as hinted publicly his intention to sell Adebayor the price would immediately drop £5 mill.

Rules out Spurs? Carling Cup? What have Arsenal won recently? Nothing. At all. Some fans may say F all. This player clearly did not play for Arsenal.

of course, it does rule out spurs .. the comment said 'a top club who wins trophies' .. u have learning difficulties ? On Ade, please sell sell sell .. he aint 20% as good as he rates himself .. his mind is set on earning unjustifiable wages .. there are loads better strikers: santa-cruz, podolski, gomez, ashavin, huntelaar, even that nigerian playing for the barcodes .. so, there .. Ade I hope we never see you ever again in an arsenal shirt .. our club is bigger than oen player .. a shitty player at that .. how indignant .. infra dignitatum!!!!!
