Football FanCast columnist Jordan Green feels it time Wenger cut the
apron strings and let Adebayor take his likely fall.
There
must come a time when Arsene Wenger declares enough is enough and washes his
hands of Emmanuel Adebayor. I'm sure I am not the only one who has grown sick
and tired of this player, who has offered little but contradictory statements
about his future, and demanded an excessive wage rise that certainly do not
befit the Togolese striker.
Wenger
must wonder what he has done to deserve such ungrateful sods. Flamini, Hleb and
Adebayor; all complete nobodies until Arsene took a chance on them, however all
have fallen under the modern day mercenary spell. Adebayor came out a few weeks
ago and felt because some halfwit had dared to compare his importance to the
team to Thierry Henry that his wages should seek parity - maybe when you score
over 200goals for the club then such demands can be made Ade.
It was reported on Monday that on Adebayor's return to pre-season that he refused to declare his future to the club. With the club refusing to bow down to his demands and break their wage structure, the club is subsequently left with an unhappy player, who will jump at the first opportunity. His friend Thierry Henry; who rather than offer Adebayor a few words of wisdom to stay at the club, decided to sit on a rather large fence:
"It is up to him. He knows his mind. I can't talk for him and I don't know what his choice will be, but that's what happens to you when you have a great year." Guardian
You would think that Thierry Henry himself would know more than most about the pitfalls of moving on to what is perceived as greener grass.
So I ask the question to Arsene Wenger of what is the purpose of keeping this bad egg at the football club? We need players who want to play for the shirt and give everything for the cause. Our two best players last season, Gael Clichy and Bacaray Sagna all signed new contracts in the summer with no hesitation, understanding the direction the club is taking and realising that there aren't many bigger or better in Europe.
If Adebayor thinks the grass is greener elsewhere then let him join the likes of Pires, Viera, Henry, Overmars, Petit and Edu in trying to find it - I certainly won't be losing any sleep over him. There are damn sight better strikers than him around.
