Football FanCast columnist Billy Pearson feels that Arsenal should look no further than Marcos Senna as the perfect foil for Cesc Fabregas.

It is has become the most pivotal role in any football team and their availability about as rare as a Thierry Henry header, but the need for Arsenal to acquire a top quality holding midfielder has become of paramount importance, if we have any hope of achieving success.

Of course it is a position that we never thought was an issue as we approached the end of the campaign. Mathieu Flamini clearly led Wenger up the garden path back in January and the ‘professors' belief that all players would share his own values of honesty and ‘men of the word' backfired greatly. You bet your bottom dollar that Wenger would have installed Diarra into the starting line-up, had he not been assured by the player, of his desire to sign a new deal and both men's subsequent departure has left us with a gaping hole that needs to be filled.

There have been many targets mentioned to fill the void. Some in-house like Gilberto and Diaby, some domestic like Barry and Johnson and some foreigners like Gattuso and Frings - all good players, all could fulfil a role but for me the most obvious target and the one that will best suited to Arsenal has to be Marcus Senna; undoubtedly the player of the Euro Championships.

The Villarreal midfielders stock has certainly risen given his performance at the Euros. He was the catalyst of the football team, the midfield general and his presence allowed the likes of Silva, Alonso and of course our own Cesc Fabregas the freedom to hurt the opposition. Senna reminded me of Viera in his pomp and proved an immovable object for the Spaniards and the foundation of which success was built. He also seemed in tune with Cesc, which is of massive importance and a clear sign that there will be no transition required if he was to arrive.

So how do my fellow fans feel about a move for Senna and would he prove the perfect foil for Cesc?

Senna is a fantastic player
Senna is a fantastic player and would be excellent for Arsenal. Pascal Cygan said today that we are interested and I hope he is proved right.

Good player and he would be
Good player and he would be an ideal player for Cesc and will free him up more. I felt he was caught to many times in defensive positions as Flam use to bomb on far too much.

Would like to see him join,
Would like to see him join, the right player at the right price so Wenger willbe over the moon.

Quite simply, at 5'9" he's
Quite simply, at 5'9" he's too short to play in that role - just as Flamini was. We need a taller player there (like Vieira) if we are to cut out the long-ball goals that we keep conceding.

He plays in the defensive
He plays in the defensive midfield position..not central defence..he doesn't need to be a six footer..he played in the same role for spain and his height was not a problem..some of the finest defensive midfielders are about the same height as him or even shorter...Gattuso and Makelele are not so tall are they? but they are among the very best defensive midfielders around..

Great player, but he is not
Great player, but he is not the right fit. One of Flamini's best attributes was his energy and quickness, and these are qualities Senna doesn't have in abundance. We need a work horse, and though Senna is a very smart player, I don't think he would offer much more than Gilberto. Deportivo's DeGuzman would be the perfect fit. Cheap, young, and a quality player with all of Flamini's attributes, plus he has a cannon. It appears that this kid from Bremen is coming, so hopefully he is quality. And if Barca would be willing to swoop Yaya for Hleb, make the move

I think that senna would be
I think that senna would be a good signing even thou Narsi is a good player from what i saw from euro he would not cope in the prem because the likes off deco and lampard they will run ringes him but with senna you get someone as good as Fabregas in midfleid which is what we need to be back again winning things and testing manchester united and chelsea.

Great player, no doubt about
Great player, no doubt about that, but by the time he would arrive for pre-season training he would be 32. He would cost a significant sum of money, and I feel that if we are going to spend such an amount, we should be investing it in a player who will still be in the first team after one season. I do not believe Senna, despite his great talent, quite fits the job description.
