FanCast guest columnist Des
Hannah reacts to
Hleb's latest comments about Arsenal and how fans should be grateful that his
departure has allowed Theo Walcott to shine.
I bet that I am not the only football fan that
cannot wait for England to take on Belarus in midweek. This is not because I am
some sort of international junkie and cannot wait to see Capello's hopeless
excuse of a football team take to the field once again, but I just hope the end
of the game will finally shut the mouth of one of the most nauseating
footballers that was to ever represent my beloved Arsenal.
Alexander Hleb is the epitome of everything I hate
in the modern footballer and his lack of class grates with me. After seeing a
move to Inter Milan fall through, (One
that he was orchestrated on the eve of a crucial Champions League tie) he
since got his dream move to Barcelona, which apart from lining his wallet has
also provided the man a soapbox where he constantly seems to make judgments on
his former employers and our players.
What annoys me about players like Hleb is the lack of appreciation and respect the man shows. It was Arsenal who took a chance on him, plucked him out of obscurity and subsequently gave him the profile that he enjoys today. The Belarusian repays that goodwill and opportunity by touting players to come to join him at the Nou Camp. First we had Adebayor in the summer and in the past seven days we have had him stirring the mix and releasing statements that Barca must ensure that Cesc can come and join him in Spain. His comments are about as welcome as a ‘fart in an elevator' and totally out of line. It is not his business and maybe Hleb should concentrate on getting himself off the subs bench at Barca, rather than this constant voyeurism of his former employers.
The latest to come from Hleb this morning was that Arsenal fans should be grateful to him for leaving the club, as it has allowed Theo Walcott to progress. Thank-you so much Alexander, what a gentleman you are, I bet Theo will be writing you in the coming weeks to praise you for the opportunity you have given him. What is this man's problem and why does he have it in his head that Arsenal fans actually give a toss what he thinks? It is time for you Alexander to stop stalking our football club and move on with your career - which judging by your only two appearances is in need of a bit of kick-start.
