Football FanCast columnist Rob Facey agrees with Arsene
Wenger about Theo Walcott's international credentials and feels that Fabio
Capello should be basing his future England plans around the young Arsenal
striker.
As
Arsenal's underwhelming season drew to a close on Sunday evening, fans received
a glimmer of hope next year with Theo Walcott's winning goal.
England
face the USA and Trindad & Tobago this summer rather than any meaningful
competition but Wenger believes that this would be the perfect opportunity time
for Capello for start experimenting with Walcott in the full international set
up.
Walcott, who was controversially included in the 2006 World Cup squad, has only one England cap but will move up to the England squad after the Under 21s fixture against Wrexham this week.
"I know that Capello has him in his mind but I wouldn't want to put any unfair pressure on Fabio Capello to choose him," Wenger told The Telegraph.
"Capello is big enough and strong enough to choose when he will be ready but I'm confident that Theo will take his chance if he does get back in.
"Theo started the season as a promising young player and he finished the season as a guy who is ready to fight for a regular place in the side and I think the next stage is for him to be a guy who can produce regularly those performances with efficiency every game he plays."
Is Wenger right - should Walcott be the figurehead for Capello's England?
Who would his best strike partner be? Is he too similar to Owen and Rooney? Would he form an effective partnership with Crouch? Or should he be deployed on the wing?
