Football FanCast columnist Jim McKendry is delighted to see Celtic take an 8pt lead and wonders whether Rangers
have the stomach to stop them winning a third successive title.
I don't think there was one Celtic fan who truly believed
two months ago that we would still be in the Championship race. Such was the
way Gordon Strachan's team was performing with a complete lack of zeal; it
looked like we had all but surrendered our SPL title.
An excellent run of form with five consecutive wins and more
importantly two victories against Glasgow Rangers has help put us 8pts clear
and well and truly put the pressure on them, although they have four games in
hand. At this stage of the season its points on the board is all that matters
and when you look at our remaining fixtures then they will have to win five out
of six to secure the title.
Should we achieve what seemed unlikely and achieve three in a row, for the first time since the days of Jock Stein; then it must go down as one of the finest achievements in our history. Gordon Strachan deserves tremendous credit for the way he has turned it around this season and I'm sure there are many Rangers fans are feeling a little queasy tonight as they look ahead to the job in hand.
So can we achieve three in a row or is it all a little too little too late?
