Football FanCast Davis Lowe reacts to the FA's recent demands of Fabio Capello and his England side and wonders whether their expectations are realistic.

If there is one thing about our great nation, then it has to be our internal optimism and our feeling of grandeur. Whatever sport we may partake in there is an overwhelming belief, fuelled by the media, that we should be the best and any subsequent failing demands the removal of personnel. It is this attitude that is the secret to our downfall and until we rectify this, we will constantly be doomed to faliure.

I will be honest to say that I am not the greatest fan when it comes to the England football team. This has nothing to do with not loving my country, I have just grown sick and tired of the constant hype that surrounds our team during a major tournament.

My first memory of an International football was Mexico 86. It was the infamous Morocco game where the ‘exceptional' Ray Wilkins was sent off and it was as dour a game you were ever unfortunate to see. For me nothing has changed. I accept there has been the one offs like the 5-1 Germany or the Holland game in Euro 96, but on the whole watching England can be about as enjoyable as a trip to the dentist.

I think of lot of my distaste for the International team is born out of sheer frustration. I honestly believe that England could actually be a successful outfit if former manager's picked players on form rather than reputation. It would also help if we actually played to the nation's strength on a football pitch rather than try and replicate teams that have greater technical ability. Fabio Capello has a huge task ahead of him, not only to change the mentality of the players but the expectation levels in our country.

I nearly choked on my cornflakes the other day when I read the FA insists that England must be semi finalists in the next World Cup and Euro 2012. That is very gracious of them down Soho Square and it is great to see that they have given our Italian coach such undue pressure - if working with Stuart Pearce wasn't bad enough. It is like the FA has suddenly succumbed to a vision and has this 4 year plan is in place. This is all well and good but the reality is that should Capello lose his next 4-5 games or fail to qualify for the World Cup then the FA will bow down to the media and sack him and subsequently we lose the best chance we ever had at becoming a competitive footballing nation.

Is the FA right to put a semi-final marker on Fabio Capello's England? Is that a realistic target given the failing team he inherited? Should the FA be applauded for laying their cards on the table?

It is the debate "Are the FA's expectations of Capello and England realistic " that will be discussed on the WKD Sports Shed show on Nuts TV, so submit your vote and comment and get your opinion seen by many.

Semi finalists is the least
Semi finalists is the least we should demand. We have some of the finest talents in Europe and it is about time we started to show it on the international stage.

Maybe we should give the FA
Maybe we should give the FA a stipulation and time frame of what we demand from them to sort out the game in this country.
