Football FanCast's Euro 2008 reporter Julio Omar Rodriguez has one sore head this morning as jubilation rains in Spain, who have finally laid the ghosts of 1964 to rest.

What a performance! What a victory! What a team!
Spain truly are the most deserved winners of a tournament I have seen for a long long time. We have finally laid the ghost of 1964 to rest and Luis Aragones' 2008 European Champions have, in my opinion, eclipsed that side.

The Spanish were simply irresistible in this final. I was worried that the players might freeze on this biggest of occasions but instead they rose to the challenge an in the end deserved even more than a 0-1 win. They had enough chances to humiliate Germany without ever looking in any danger themselves; Iker Casillas never had a save to make throughout the match.

Every one of the Spanish players were heroes and it is difficult to pick the best player on the night but if I had to choose I would have to go for Fernando Torres who worked so hard all night and definitely got his reward with a beautifully taken goal worthy of winning any cup final.

The Germans were indeed outclassed in this final but the worrying thing for them was that they never looked like they would stage one of their great escapes again. We always say never write off the Germans but in this game when they needed to come up with something extra they seemed to be devoid of any ideas, you have to say that they did exceptionally well to even reach the final with that team. The German defence once again were awful and they struggled with the superiority of the Spanish passing game.

Dive Watch - as far as diving goes, Lucas Podolski once again showed that he is on top of his game, tumbling freely at every given opportunity. Although we never saw much actual diving from Spain, many of the Spanish players have now reached the summit when it comes to exaggerating pain and unfortunately one of the most frequent offenders in this game was match winner Fernando Torres, there is no doubt that he will carry on in this vain for Liverpool in the Premier League next season which will certainly not endear him to rival supporters.

It has been a wonderful tournament with 90% of the games being thoroughly entertaining with some fantastic football being played, especially from the likes of Croatia, Russia, Portugal and Holland while Turkey provided us with an awesome ‘never say die' attitude which was thrilling to watch as they constantly came back from the brink.

What has made this tournament even more special is that the best team throughout the tournament have emerged as champions. Spain played the best football, they scored the most goals, they conceded the least amount of goals and they have been the best team in each of the six games they have played. Even when the Italians tried to stifle them they were still trying to play the right away and in the process exorcised some demons in the penalty shootout victory. All in all Spain's victory was also a victory to all of us who love to watch the beautiful game and not a team content in sitting back and hoping to nick a goal.

This Spanish team have the potential to dominate world football with the talent they have available, and with such a young team I am supremely confident of a repeat success at the World Cup in 2010.

Viva Espana!!!
