Football
FanCast columnist Davis Lowe is looking forward to the showdown between Man
United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea's Petr Cech and wonders who will have
the bragging rights come 7pm tonight.
If there is one thing you can say about Euro 2008 is that it
has hardly lived up to its billing. In fairness it has been somewhat of a drab
affair, where negativity has been king and skill has been lacking, but as D'ream
once proclaimed, "things can only get better".
This afternoon's game promises to be an excellent match-up where we have in my mind, two of the best players in the world in Petr Cech and Cristiano Ronaldo. It will be the third time in little over a month that they have come face to face again and while the Manchester United star has the medals; Petr Cech has already delivered a psychological blow by saving his spot kick in Moscow - you kind of wonder whether Cristiano Ronaldo will be taking a shimmy before any spot kick that may come Portugal's way.
It is fair to say that victory today will more than guarantee progress to the next stage and the quarter finals of this competition. Portugal for me is the outstanding team in the tournament and has ever a nation had such a depth of talent at their disposal? Every area of the pitch breeds class and of course they have the match winners in Deco, Quaresma, Nani and of course Cristiano Ronaldo.
Let's hope it lives up to its billing and shares the excitement and quality of yesterday's 5pm kick off between Spain and Russia. Can Petr Cech get some revenge on Cristiano Ronaldo or will the Portuguese wizard fire them to the quarter finals.
