Football FanCast columnist Clive Horton believes that Everton should give Spurs defender Pascal Chimbonda a wide berth.

One thing that I have always respected about David Moyes is that he is your no nonsense football manager who is not afraid to put players in their place, despite their reputations. I remember him giving Jesper Blomquist a severe dressing down on the touchline after bemoaning his substitution in one of his first games in charge; it is a trait that has carried on throughout his stewardship and has damaged many an ego - just ask Andy van der Meyde.

To be honest the aforementioned was probably the only bad egg that Moyes has brought in since he took the reins. The Scot is normally scrupulous when it comes to identifying his transfer targets, as he wants to bring in players that won't disrupt the harmony of the group and who will maintain the 100% work ethic that he and the Goodison faithful demand. It is a blueprint that should remain intact and that is why I would seriously oppose a move for Pascal Chimbonda.

There is something that grates me about the guy and is the epitome of the modern footballer who sees the Pound sign as king and very little else. The ruthless way in which he handed in a transfer request on the final day of the season at Wigan, the way in which he reacted to being substituted in the Carling Cup final are clear examples of a player who only thinks of No.1 instead of his teammates. We certainly shouldn't entertain someone with that attitude, despite his undoubted abilities as a footballer.

I don't know what my fellow Evertonians think about the guy and maybe some feel his abilities outweigh any such misdemeanours. There is no question we need a right back ahead of the new season, but should we focus attentions elsewhere or would you prefer to see us take a chance on the player.

Excellent footballer but not
Excellent footballer but not really in keeping with the spirit that Moyes has created. I wouldnt want to jeopardise the team harmony for the sake of one player.

His ability is
His ability is unquestioned! Great defender, versatile, attack minded and qucik who is exceptional in the air! He has everything Everton need in that particlular position. However, his attitude sucks. Plus, he wears tights and gloves in September! Acceptable at the Lane perhaps, but not a Goodison Park:)

Greetings Toffees fans. What any honest Spurs fan would tell you (and Wigan fans before us, no doubt), is that he could add something to your team in a playing sense - alas there seems to be something 'wrong' with his head - to use Ye Olde language 'he is wrong-headed' :-D p.s. good luck for the enxt season, always had a soft spot for you.

Spurs fan here: I hope you
Spurs fan here: I hope you do take him, for our sake. He's not a great defender by any strecth of the imagination. He's a medicore defender with a flair and talent for attack the opposition half. He also has great strength in the air, but he isn't a technically gift and can be slow in the tackle. His attitude and outlook are bad news and he's anything but a team player. He can do a job, but at the risk of upsetting team balance and morale.

"To be honest the aforementioned was probably the only bad egg that Moyes has brought in since he took the reins." AVDM was not a bad buy, he was a bargain and is still one of the most naturally talented wingers in English football. If you understood more of his personal situation (seriously ill daughter), mixed with injuries at the outset of his Everton career, it's completely understandable. I think most Evertonians wish him the best of luck and we would love to see him playing regularly this season - he's a top player that would make a big difference to us. And besides, did the "journalist" not see Moyes signing of Per Koldrup?!?!?

He's a great player and in some ways it will be a shame to see him go. but on the other hand please take him, his attitude stinks and after his carling cup performance when he got taken off i'd had enough of him. not to mention his out burst about wanting to join newcastle for the money. he is wants wrong with football these days.
