believes that Liverpool fans should show some patience with Robbie Keane and
appreciate what a mercurial talent they have.
When Liverpool splashed out in the region of £19m
for Robbie Keane, it is fair to say there was differing opinion. Some saw him
as the missing piece to the title jigsaw, while others felt it an unnecessary
gamble given that funds are somewhat sparse. The Irishman's form at the start
of the season has done little but fuel his doubters, but I don't think it will
take them long to realise the mercurial talent they possess.
I shook my head listening to 606 after the draw at
Villa and the amount of Liverpool fans questioning him. It is extremely naive
and anyone that has every paid close attention to his playing career knows that
Keane is not the quickest of starters. The reason I mused listening to the
complaints on the radio is that they were similar to ones expressed by Spurs
fans all those years ago and it didn't take long for the player to change their
viewpoint and I guess all I'm calling for a little patience.
I'm a Spurs fan and believe me there was nothing more devastating this summer than see him leave the football club. As a striker he really has no weakness, but unlike Torres he has the ability to get involved in build up play, can drift out wide and bring a totally different dimension to Liverpool. He is the perfect foil for the Spaniard in the same way he was Berbatov and if he can do it with a player of the Bulgarian's ability then it is only a matter of time before he clicks with Torres.
Unlike a lot of critics or so called experts in the game, I honestly believe that Liverpool have a great chance to win the title this season. You only lost 4 games last year and all they lacked was that player who can turn those draws into wins, with the incisive through ball or moment of magic - in Keane you have both and once he finds his feet alongside Torres, then you guys are in for a treat. Unplayable is a phrase that is well overused in football; however I cannot think of a better adjective.
