Mark Hughes has sounded a note of caution amid reports that the new owners of Manchester City are set to offer eye-watering fees to land the world's best players in the January transfer window.

City have already landed Brazil star Robinho in a £33million British record transfer deal from Real Madrid with money made available from the takeover of the club by Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment.

Since details of the takeover came to light the Citizens have been linked with moves for the likes of Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, Kaka from AC Milan and Cesc Fabregas of Arsenal. But Hughes doesn't believe the acquisition of such leading talent will prove such a straightforward affair.

"Everybody is excited with what's happened to the club and I include myself in that," he told the club's official website.

"We're at the stage where we can kick on and the resources are there where we can get the quality of players we need to be successful.

"Monday's events were very exciting, and when the realisations that we were going to get significant backing came through then a few people were walking round with a smile on their face.

"There are obviously exceptionally talented players out there that we would like to think we can bring here, if they are made available by their clubs.

"The difficulty will be to get their clubs to release such quality players, certainly in January if we are talking about players involved in the Champions League then their clubs are not receptive to losing their players at that time.

"It might be more difficult in January than people think. We'll look at targets that we think we can realistically get."

Sparky is dead right, it
Sparky is dead right, it would be easy to get carried away but we have to expect clubs raising their prices acordingly and making life incredibly difficult for us.

It was like what happened to
It was like what happened to Chelsea. I personally believe money now talks in football so if we pay the top wage then the players will come regardless of the clubs putting obstacles in the way.

Hughes is wise and he knows the difficulties in getting players, I just hope that Robinho settles quickly becuase if he does then it will tempt other players to come and join him.
