Football FanCast guest
columnist Sonny Cheema cannot
understand the negative press towards Manchester City and wants to set the
record straight.
I have made this point several times over, but with the
continued negative press I have to make it again I feel. I am sending this to
all the author's of the articles published in the red tops and the so called
broad sheets. The journalists, the commentators, the players, the ex players,
the clubs, the managers of clubs and all the bitter fans who have all decided
to have a dig and express their ‘concerns'
- Right, I'm gonna deal in facts only and not made up stories or what you think
will happen.
Manchester City Football Club founded or established or what ever you want to call it, in 1894. One of the leagues founding member clubs and have won the league twice, we've come 2nd 3 times. We have been in the FA cup final 8 times, winning it on 4 occasions, we have won the league cup twice, to go alongside the European cup winners cup once. Alongside this we have had over 84,000 people attending an FA cup tie way back when, which all in all show we have some history and tradition and we are very well supported. About which there should be no doubt.
We have produced many England players most recently
Joe Hart, Micah Richards, Joey Barton, SWP.
We have numerous players who have played for the under 21's,
Nedum Onuha, Michael Johnson, Daniel Sturridge
Alongside many others who have played for their respective national teams in Ireland and Wales. Now lets look at this more closely as it seems to be the topic of the last few days with some journalists. The players I have mentioned are actually still playing with us apart from the disgrace that is Joey Barton.
How many players have the so called top 4 actually produced, still play for them and currently play for England.
Man Utd: Wes Brown
Liverpool: Gerrard
Chelsea: John Terry
Arsenal: None
So that's 3 players who are in the current England squad, who actually either started there or were developed into the player they are now, at the club they are currently playing for. We have 4 or 5 which on current form should be in there ahead of the glorified players who can't perform anymore (Micah Richards, Joe Hart) So if they're not in the squad, it is not our fault. Blame the FA and the England management.
In regards to our new owners, we did not ask to be chosen by them, they looked at several clubs and with brilliant judgement on there part, looked at our club as a whole and looked at our history, present and what they feel could be our future.
With regards to the argument that there is going to be an influx of more foreign players into the league. Well it's a non argument. There is already a huge no. of foreign players, but tell me this. Has the standard of the English players not improved thanks to these superstars coming in. If our boys can get upto their level, by training with them everyday and being in there presence, surely it can only mean the England team getting better. The problem is if one player has a good tournament or a good run of matches, Rooney being a prime example, the media go mental and build him up to be the next Pele or Maradonna. When it's not the case, their price goes through the roof and they are automatically linked to one of the top 4. Hence only a few players who started at their original club and where they made a name for themselves are still there. Look at Lampard, Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, Bentley, all started at different clubs. Plus many more.
So tell me why are people all of a sudden blaming everything that is wrong with football at the doorstep of MCFC. When all that has happened so far, is us being taken over which is still under due diligence and we have secured the services of a highly rated player or he was until he came to city. If Chelsea had secured the services of Robinho, he would have been declared the best buy of the summer and the missing piece in Chelsea's very expensive jigsaw.
We now have the backing of one of the world's wealthiest organisations and we are suddenly destroying football, we have bought the title, we have turned into a superpower overnight, The fact is we still have to win something and manage to attract the calibre of player that is being branded about. Which is not gonna happen straight away.
We have unlimited funds, but there is only so much that can be spent and as proven by many other teams it doesn't necessarily buy you success. We have started a project and the players that come in now and players we already have will be the nucleus of it. We already have a very competitive and good squad which will only be improved if deemed necessary by our manager.
So the fact is we have more potential than any other team now to break the monopoly or quadropoly as a another person put it. The teams within this clique have realised this and because it is going to affect the money they have coming in from league position and the Champions league, they are gonna be in serious financial trouble. The media have a stronghold on coverage and it sells there papers to report on the likes of Man Utd etc .. Sky, Setanta show more matches with the top 4, so will it sell papers etc if they are reporting on little Man City ? .. NO .. Hence the witchhunt and media frenzy surrounding us. So any story they can conjure to make us look bad they will.
You can throw your best at us; we will always be Man City, money or no money, success or no success. Our team will always be here. We will always love it and the true fans know what is really going on. So print your story's and run your articles on the net, makes no difference to us. All you are going to achieve is making yourselves look silly and show how unprofessional you are in publishing your articles.
