Football FanCast columnist Daniel Lomax wonders if Manchester United should put full faith in Manucho and
wonders if he can save the clubs millions.
Over the summer months speculation has been rife over the arrival of a
striker at Old Trafford but nothing, as yet, has been unveiled. Manager Sir
Alex Ferguson may have alternative options, including young starlet Frazier
Campbell, should he decide that the club need further striking options to
compliment Rooney and Tevez.
But there may be another reason as to why the club haven't delved into the
transfer market. Manucho arrived back in January and was ultimately loaned out
to Panathinaikos for the rest of the season by Ferguson, who felt that the
young Angolan needed regular competitive football.
During his spell in Greece, Manucho scored four goals and helped Panathinaikos to a third placed finish in the league. He was a revelation in the Africa Cup of Nations also, delivering four goals during the competition, including one absolute screamer against Egypt. Manucho clearly has an eye for goal but does he have enough quality to be a leading star of the Premier League?
The striker was supposed to travel and play in the first team on their tour of Africa but the player has an injured metatarsal which, unfortunately, meant he couldn't play a part. However, with the impending departure of Louis Saha expected in the coming weeks, Manucho will be eager to impress his team mates and push himself into the first team squad.
Will the big Angolan save Manchester United millions and turn out to be a saving grace
