Football FanCast columnist Daniel Lomax wonders if Manchester United should put full faith in Manucho and wonders if he can save the clubs millions.

Over the summer months speculation has been rife over the arrival of a striker at Old Trafford but nothing, as yet, has been unveiled. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson may have alternative options, including young starlet Frazier Campbell, should he decide that the club need further striking options to compliment Rooney and Tevez.

But there may be another reason as to why the club haven't delved into the transfer market. Manucho arrived back in January and was ultimately loaned out to Panathinaikos for the rest of the season by Ferguson, who felt that the young Angolan needed regular competitive football.

During his spell in Greece, Manucho scored four goals and helped Panathinaikos to a third placed finish in the league. He was a revelation in the Africa Cup of Nations also, delivering four goals during the competition, including one absolute screamer against Egypt. Manucho clearly has an eye for goal but does he have enough quality to be a leading star of the Premier League?

The striker was supposed to travel and play in the first team on their tour of Africa but the player has an injured metatarsal which, unfortunately, meant he couldn't play a part. However, with the impending departure of Louis Saha expected in the coming weeks, Manucho will be eager to impress his team mates and push himself into the first team squad.

Will the big Angolan save Manchester United millions and turn out to be a saving grace

He will be given his chance.
He will be given his chance. He is not ready or proven to be used as a fixture to rely on. I still think, Berbatov will join us. With the current situation between Spurs and us some matter of who blinks first.

Personally i don't think he
Personally i don't think he can be of any help for the fothcoming season.I am Greek and i got a good glimpse of him the last 6 months. He didn't particulary stick out here so i doubt he can do it at Old Trafford.I may be on unchartered waters here, but i am very disappointed in Fergie. He is not being completely honest. When we won the Champion's League we were told that he could have the funds he wanted(the sum of 50mil pounds kept popping up). Then all of a sudden he says that he will only make one signing. Then once he burned every bridge with Tottenham he said that we have an adequate squad, all the while we are offloading Saha. How can a squad without Pique and Saha be adequate when it wasn't near as such last season?Who will fill in for Rio and Vida?Evans?Who will carry the load until Ronaldo comes back?Park and Nani?Remember that Ronaldo will miss the start of the Champion's league along with trips to Chelsea and Liverpool.Iam not even adressing the striker situation.Huntelaar(a striker who can accomadate our gameplay better than Berba) was practicaly begging for an offer.Tottenham will not sale Berba just like we will not sale Ronaldo. Why on earth haven't we moved for anyone else?So that we will wait until the 31st of August for the Bulgarian, lose him once and for all and then nit buy anyone?Pardon me but once i heard that United had yet to pay for the buses that were used in Moscow,i feared the worst.

Chill your boots costas!
Chill your boots costas! How often did Saha snd Pique play last year? not anywhere near the minutes worth what they were being paid for. I'm pretty certain evans is capable of covering the games pique played in, and as for Saha, as much as I love him, any FIT striker would be more useful to the squad. And you've answered the other question yourself. Yes, Nani and Park will carry the load til Ronaldo comes back. Isn't that the point of a squad? Did you hope that we could sign Puskas or Cryuff just to cope with our injury crisis?...

Dear Dominic,of course i
Dear Dominic,of course i wasn't hoping we woulg get Cruyff or Pouskas to fill in for Ronaldo. All iam saying about our winger situation is that Giggs is pushing on 35,Park has had some injury troubles this summer and Nani will miss the first 2 games of the season(i hope that one of those will be the Shield). At the same time,Nani is Ronaldo circa 2005.He is not the complete article yet.Maybe that's the reason that Fergie is trying to clinch on Ronaldo for 1 more year.On to the other points.Saha and Pique didn't play that much, but they were big game players if called upon. Most people forget that Pique started against Roma and Arsenal and played well.I am not knocking Evans.I saw him in the Amsterdam tournament in 2006 and he was impressive, but can anyone say they would trust him right now to start against Arsenal? We have the best defensive partnership in the world but apart from Brown we don't have adequate backup. In closing all iam saying is that i would appreciate some honesty. If we don't have enough money for transfers, the fans should know.

Last season we had the
Last season we had the strongest team in the club's history. We have sold Pique and now all of a sudden we are lightweight. I don't think so. Defensively, we have silvestre, Brown, evans, O'Shea as cover. In midfield, Fletcher, Carrick, Park, Hargreaves, anderson, Giggs and Nani are more than capable of helping out to cover Ronaldo's Absence. Upfront, Scholes, Giggs, saha and Ronaldo can provide ample cover for Rooney and Tevez People say that we need a 30 goals a season man. When we sold Ruud, the reason was that we didn't need such a player and look what we achieved. We don't have to buy our way out of the trouble (of being the strongest side we ever had) Have a bit of faith in the current team

You have to break it into
You have to break it into categories. In the midfield department i will agree that the team is as strong as ever. However in attack the team was lightweight. We lost the Manchester derby at home partly because in Rooney's absence the team didn't have another striker. In recent history,United has had the strongest strike force when we had Sheri,Ole,Yorke and Cole.No one says we need a 30 goal per season striker. In modern football you cannot rely too much on one player. But you do need adequate cover. On a plus note check out the team's statistics when Vida or Rio weren't playing. The defense was struggling. For example,Boro away. All iam saying is,we need 2 players.A defender and a striker. Then we will be all powerful.Even without the traitor because from what i see in the friendlies Sir Alex is experimenting with Fletch on the right. He is no Ronaldo but he has played there before.Don't take my tone personally. Here in Greece we tend to moan quite a lot about our teams.Ask Manucho.

2 problems with this: 1 -
2 problems with this: 1 - Manucho was poor in Greece which, with respect, is a much weaker league than in England so we don't know what we can expect from him. 2 - it looks increasingly unlikely that Manucho will obtain a work permit because he hasn't played in enough international games. If United want to push on this season we have to strenghten with a proven goal scorer, especially with Ronaldo's head being in Madrid.

hey, remember Costas. United
hey, remember Costas. United have bearly played in a 4 4 2 formation this summer. They don't have to have a right winger ya kno. United have lots of choices. Even Anderson can play on a right wing
