Football FanCast columnist Jim McKendry cannot understand why Newcastle United never get the respect they duly deserve.

Kevin Keegan is very much an enigma in football and you really either love or loath him. I personally have great admiration and respect for the man, for the simple reason that in the modern day game it is rare that you are treated to such honesty. He is a man of principle, belief and wants his football club to play the right way without having to sacrifice style and effort to achieve his goals. What is so wrong with that? The Premier League would be a much better place, if managers all shared that philosophy.

His return to Newcastle United was greeted with much scepticism within the media, who constantly look to knock the football club. It is something that has become widespread among supporters of other clubs who continually try and belittle the club and put it down in any shape of form - you can bet your bottom dollar that they wouldn't have mind sharing the same highs and lows that the Toon Army have experienced, since the inauguration of the Premier League.

So why do Newcastle get such a hard time and why are they constantly being dismissed as small fry? What is wrong with a football club having high standards? Would they get more credibility if they decided to play route one and kick and chase their way to success? Why does Newcastle United fail to get the respect they duly deserve?

It is the debate "Newcastle United a big club - myth or reality" that will be discussed on the WKD Sports Shed show on Nuts TV, so submit your vote and comment and get your opinion seen by many.

55,000 every given week,
55,000 every given week, Champions League football, cup finals, top 3 finishes - not many so called bigger clubs can match that.

We have that type of media in this country that looks to build you up so to knock you down, it is the way of the world unfortunatley.

Exactly, they sing praises
Exactly, they sing praises of every team, including Bolton! Yet continuously call Newcastle, belittling them. As for 55,000 every home game...did you know even when we were a division lower than Liverpool we got bigger crowds? Yes those 'true' fans from Liverpool that only sell out for the big games!

As a fan from Denmark and a
As a fan from Denmark and a proud member of Toons of Denmark NUFC supporters club, i can say that Newcastle is very big here... You cant argue that the club hasnt delivered in recent years and the years before Robson but after Dalglish, and that has to be seen as a failure, for that simple fact that a club that size should be in top 4 every year... When that is said there is a difference from failing to deliver and having potential and the club dosnt go from Big as it was under Keegan and Robson to small because of bad finishes under wrong management, if league finishes what all you measured by, then Spurs have been a small club in all the EPL history only to get big the two recent years and then small again last year... Í remember the Keegan years, there where actual commercials here in Denmark in prime time with the Honey Monster playing for Newcastle, later Coca Cola also made one. I have NEVER seen any other club in a commercial like that, today its focussing on players and the commercials are football related such as Nike and Adidas. If that isnt history, to make the whole world sit up and take notice of this TEAM not one player but team and industries totally unrelated to football wanna buy into your brand, then what is?... The Entertainers are still remembered 15 years on by premier league fans around the globe, i rest my case!

The press are so biased
The press are so biased towards the London clubs that it's painful to watch. Imagine if it was Newcastle that had reached 2 cup finals this year, finished 2nd in the premiership and then sacked their manager? The media would have a field day. But as it's Chelsea, it's quickly brushed under the carpet and Grant is felt sorry for.. As a club, we have made some terrible decisions, but apart from Man U and Aresnal, who hasn't? Newcastle IS a big club. It's not a massive club or a giant, but it is a big club. Everything is in place. We have a wonderful owner who understands business (unlike FF) No debt, a good infrastructure, a vision and a plan, a good manager who the locals trust completely, some good players, a beautiful stadium that is packed out every home game and some of the most fiercely passionate fans in the country. All we lack is success in recent years..

Having that nuggett Freddie
Having that nuggett Freddie Shepherd for 10 years as chairman made the Toon fair game in the press. The new regieme will forge their own identity to the national media soon and some of the negativity will stop. The one thing that will finally change everyones opinion of the club, is a trophy.

True. Chelsea are the
True. Chelsea are the biggest team in Europe if you read the press...now remind me they keep saying its about trophies won, yes, so how come they have won the league less times than Newcastle? Shame isn't it?
