Welcome to the latest news from the Right
Result.
Our
mission is simple, to show you how the Premier League should look if the match
officials got all their decisions right! Our table is based on results that
don't include dodgy off-sides, iffy penalties or blatant incidents of the ball
crossing the line!
Each week the Right
Result panel selects the latest key injustices,
applies the strict rules of the game to them and passes an impartial judgement
on whether or not questionable decisions should stand. The panel is a neutral
and independent body, comprised of members from the
Association of Football Statisticians.
It could be all so different if we all adhered to the Right
Result table which shows an alarming difference to the Premier
League. Chelsea would certainly not be level with Manchester United; Arsenal
would provide their nearest challengers and Everton will be sitting 4pts ahead
of their great rivals Liverpool.
There is an old cliché in football that things always even themselves out over a course of a season. Why that doesn't always prove the case, there is a remarkable coincidence at the bottom of the table where 5 of the bottom 6 clubs all have what is deemed the correct points by the Association of Football Statisticians. The two teams that have been severely punished this season are both Fulham and Bolton who should be no fewer than seven and four points better off. It more than highlights the claims from Fulham fans in recent weeks that they haven't had the rub of the green all season.
Of the weekend fixtures there were only two judgments made by the Right Result Panel and it involves both of the Merseyside giants, who both should be celebrating 3pts from their respective games. Everton should have awarded their first Premier League penalty of the season while Liverpool was punished by a cunning act of gamesmanship from Birmingham City's Radhi Jaidi.
Unfortunately
we don't adhere to the Right Result table so why Everton may bemoan
their misfortune in the Champions League race or Liverpool feel aggrieved at dropped points, you can take some comfort in the knowledge of how we
believe the table should really look.
Weekend decisions by the Right Result Judgment Panel:
Everton v Aston Villa
Everton are the only club in this season's Premier League who have yet to be awarded a penalty. We believed that should have changed in Game No. 36 with Aston Villa's visit to Goodison Park. Shortly before the first of the four shared goals in a pulsating second-half, Villa's Stilian Petrov blocked Lee Carsley's shot with his arm. The Bulgarian midfielder had his arm outstretched and due to the distance the ball travelled, had the opportunity to take evasive action.
The Right Result is a 3-2 win for Everton
Birmingham City v
Liverpool
Birmingham City earned a vital point in their battle against relegation with their draw against Liverpool. It came courtesy of a controversial second goal from Sebastian Larsson's free-kick. Blues' Radhi Jaidi was shown to be in an offside position in a direct line between the free-kick and Liverpool keeper Jose Reina. The big defender also moved from side-to-side as the kick was taken to fulfil the interfering with an opponent criteria - making a gesture or movement which deceives or distracts. No indication is suggested with regard to the degree of distraction so, as Jaidi is 6ft 2ins and 14st, it would be surprising if something didn't catch the corner of Reina's eye.
The Right Result is a 2-1 win for Liverpool
