The talk of the FFC Tavern at the moment is:

Hutton on his way in but Chimbonda on his way out?
With Spurs set to seal the £9 million deal for Alan Hutton from Rangers, various papers report this morning that Aston Villa will now be attempting to rush through a deal for Tottenham's current right-back Pascal Chimbonda.

Will the attacking full-back from Rangers be a success at the Lane? Will Spurs fans be sad to see Pascal leave?

Sven makes bid for Pompey's Benjani
The Daily Mail have this morning reported that Manchester City have made an audacious £5 million bid for Portsmouth's star of the season Benjani Mwaruwari.

Would Harry Redknapp really let Benjani go?

Newcastle
to steal Alvaro?
It has been reported on SkySports this morning that Kevin Keegan is rumoured to have made a £3 million bid for Levante centre-half Alvaro. The Brazilian had attracted keen interest from Birmingham City but the Blues may now have missed out on the defender.

Will the Brazilian be the man to shore up the Newcastle back line?

Mascherano finally to make permanent move?
It has been reported in various newspapers this morning that Liverpool are feeling confident in sealing the permanent move of Javier Mascherano before Thursday's deadline.

Is the Argentinean worth the reported £17 million?

Routledge off to Villa

It is reported on SkySports this morning that Wayne Routledge could finally be leaving Tottenham as he is currently undergoing a medical at Aston Villa ahead of a proposed move to the midlands club.

Will the ex-Palace man be able to hold down a place at Villa Park?

Newcastle fail in bid for Barnes
County have turned down a verbal offer from Newcastle for the highly-rated Giles Barnes, but the Daily Telegraph also report that Rams' boss Paul Jewell would be prepared to sell to the Geordies if the price was right.

Will Newcastle up their bid for Giles Barnes? Would a move now be right for the 19 year-old?

Elsewhere in the FFC Tavern on the penultimate day of the transfer window, the Times have reported that Newcastle also want FC Brno midfielder Lubos Kalouda but may face competition from Juventus and the same paper reports that Spurs are interested in Real Zaragoza's Argentinean striker Diego Milito. Valencia's Miguel Angel Angulo is reportedly a target for Man City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson according to the Daily Mail this morning, and the Daily Mirror report that Birmingham have beaten Bolton in the race to sign Aston Villa defender Gary Cahill. And finally the Daily Star provide us with the news that Robbie Keane's persistent text messages and phone calls persuaded Jonathan Woodgate to sign for Spurs and join up with his ex-Leeds team-mate.

I would be thrilled if we signed Routledge, with him on one wing and Young on the other we will have great pace down the wings.
