that Spurs fans appreciated what they have got.
Michael Robinson was asked the question when Juande
Ramos took the helm at Tottenham, what can he achieve in North London; the
response was simply anything they want. If the club want to challenge for the
title he can achieve it, play Champions League football he will provide it. The
ex Liverpool striker feels that Spurs had just landed one of the top5 managers
in the world and it was up to the club to back their man and let him deliver
success.
It is fair to say that Robinson's view was echoed by
many sections in the Spanish media, who have this unrivalled belief that Ramos is
the next big thing in Spain to emerge. Many feel that Barca missed a trick in
not making a move for him, especially in light of their problems at the time
for Rijkaard. They believe that Spurs have pulled off the biggest of coups and
expect the Londoners to be a force again before long.
In truth it only took four months for Ramos to deliver success to a football club that had been in a 9yr barren spell. He did it primarily with the tools he was given, so you do wonder what Spurs fans can expect him to achieve when he has his own men in.
Despite the success that Ramos achieved, I'm still amazed at the negativity or should I say an element of scepticism some fans have for him. In the past three weeks alone I have read on Spurs forums, that there are concerns about his transfer policy so far, the lack of defenders being brought in, why he would be crazy to let Berbatov or Keane go. Someone even mentioned that they doubt his ability as a coach because the poor displays at the backend of the season. It is laughable in all honesty and an insult to the man, who inherited a squad that was completely out of shape, zero confidence and as was proven after the Carling Cup lack a hunger to succeed. Ramos has no time for that sort of mentality and after endless calls for his team to step up and play for their future, he realised he was flogging a dead horse with a team of egotistical footballers, who felt they had suddenly made it after their Wembley success. The culprits will undoubtedly be shipped out, as Ramos looks to bring in his own men this summer.
Juande Ramos has brought in four excellent additions already and no doubt will add another half a dozen names before the end of the August. He challenged the board in the summer to match his aspirations and with full credit to them they have delivered. Nobody knows who his next signings are going to be, so to go on just hearsay of Fleet Street drivel is rather short sighted. The Spaniard knows he needs a holding midfielder, he is fully aware the defence wants strengthening and it will be done before the season. Some Spurs fans just need to be patient and realise that their football club is in the safest hands.
I'm no Spurs fan myself, but I guarantee that under Ramos there is no reason you will be challenging for the Champions League spot next season. He has already proved last year that his teams are a match for the United, Arsenal and Chelsea's of this world, so that is why you should feel extremely optimistic.
