Football
FanCast columnist Hans
Schmitz feels that it is time
that Spurs supporters were given some clarity once and for all.
If there is one aspect of football that always leaves a sour
taste in the mouth, then it is the lack of transparency given to supporters when
it comes to club matters.
We are always the last to know, treated like second class
citizens and we are always left in limbo and therefore forced to draw our own
conclusions. We deserve better, we pay their wages and therefore a bit of respect
should be forthcoming, but unfortunately that is a trait that has seemingly
become extinct within the modern game.
I'm sure that I am not the only Spurs supporter who has been somewhat put out about speculation with regards to Robbie Keane and a proposed move to Liverpool. As one of my colleagues wrote in the week, this whole episode has all the similarities of the Gareth Barry proposed transfer, where every single day we are going to be subjected to ex pros or coaches, like Trapattoni today, who stick their nose in and offer their unwanted opinion on a proposed move.
So what about us the fans? What about us who make the club what it is and who Robbie Keane has time after time has poured out his love for - don't we deserve some clarification? Is it too much for the club or player to come out and release a statement either way? The silence for me speaks great volumes and it is clear from where I am standing that this is more than just a malicious rumour; contact has been made and we are left to wait and wonder.
May be I am just overreacting and many may feel that we don't have a right to know, but I beg to differ. The only reason speculation and rumour intensifies within the media is if the club doesn't make a stand early and nip in the bud. This link has been festering since the News of the World broke the story and the only thing we have heard since is a supposed insider who refutes a claim that Keane hasn't handed in a transfer request. It is getting beyond a joke and why we continually fail to get clarity remains a mystery.
Should we as supporters expect anything less?
