Time Spurs fans were given some much needed clarity - surely the least they deserve?

Football FanCast columnist Hans Schmitz feels that it is time that Spurs supporters were given some clarity once and for all.

If there is one aspect of football that always leaves a sour taste in the mouth, then it is the lack of transparency given to supporters when it comes to club matters.

We are always the last to know, treated like second class citizens and we are always left in limbo and therefore forced to draw our own conclusions. We deserve better, we pay their wages and therefore a bit of respect should be forthcoming, but unfortunately that is a trait that has seemingly become extinct within the modern game.

I'm sure that I am not the only Spurs supporter who has been somewhat put out about speculation with regards to Robbie Keane and a proposed move to Liverpool. As one of my colleagues wrote in the week, this whole episode has all the similarities of the Gareth Barry proposed transfer, where every single day we are going to be subjected to ex pros or coaches, like Trapattoni today, who stick their nose in and offer their unwanted opinion on a proposed move.

So what about us the fans? What about us who make the club what it is and who Robbie Keane has time after time has poured out his love for - don't we deserve some clarification? Is it too much for the club or player to come out and release a statement either way? The silence for me speaks great volumes and it is clear from where I am standing that this is more than just a malicious rumour; contact has been made and we are left to wait and wonder.

May be I am just overreacting and many may feel that we don't have a right to know, but I beg to differ. The only reason speculation and rumour intensifies within the media is if the club doesn't make a stand early and nip in the bud. This link has been festering since the News of the World broke the story and the only thing we have heard since is a supposed insider who refutes a claim that Keane hasn't handed in a transfer request. It is getting beyond a joke and why we continually fail to get clarity remains a mystery.

Should we as supporters expect anything less?

Dead right Hans, it is a

Dead right Hans, it is a clear sign that something is brewing and i feel let down that Keano hasnt come out and said anything.

Its a real shame in my

Its a real shame in my opinion and if Keane was to leave he would be sorely missed, but Ramos wouldnt let him go unless he had someone just as capable to replace him.

Welcome to the real world of

Welcome to the real world of football where us the fans are nothing but people who cough up endless amounts of money to see our team play but have no say what so ever in what else happens at the club :( As you can tell from the name, I'm a TOON supporter & we've had to put up with this sort of crap for god know how long, so as I said, welcome t the real world of football :)

If Keane was to go (which I

If Keane was to go (which I hope is not the case) then I for one, do NOT want Peter Crouch coming to Spurs under ANY circumstances. I would be furious if a Keane-Crouch swap deal went through, no matter how much money we receive. Bringing back a player (who is far inferior to Keane) who we let go a few seasons back, would be a huge step back for us, and would show a serious lack of ambition. Why should we take cast-offs from clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United, so in return they can have our best players, such as Keane and Berbatov?

Nice original peice Scmitz........NOT!!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A37944480

I sent an email to Spurs on

I sent an email to Spurs on the matter of Keane. Not because I expected a reply but just because this one got to me so much. Keane is part of the family and as such shouldn't be allowed to leave without a serious fight. Anyway suprisingly they did respond, I'll paste in their respoonse below, but I take it that reading between the lines, he's said he isn't going anywhere for now. What do you think? "Thank you for your comments, which have been noted and for taking the time to write. We are unable to comment on the future of Robbie Keane as to do so would not only require us to address every other issue, but also contradict our faith in his personal assurances. If there is anything to report, we will do so with vigour."

For the first time in 12

For the first time in 12 years Im happy to ask for my membership money back if Keane go's, once again we'll be losing a vital players for next seasons campaign if the transfer is true. Another point is that we spent so much money on transfers but can't seem to pay the top wages, whats the point season after season buyying players and then losing them to better clubs. Levy needs to sort it out, he messed up last season with the boardroom mess of Jol and the previous season selling Carrick and never actual replacing him. The club may need a takeover to match our ambitions as the present board seems to lack it.

i too felt hurt by the way

i too felt hurt by the way we have not come out to squash the rumour? but! "it's our policy not to coment"? if robbie were to go to the puddlers and crouch to whl it would remind me of the way the "board" thought chris armstrong was the player to replace klinsmann when every spurs fan was screaming NO, if this sale goes ahead then i suggest messers levy and ramos go to the near by ikea and stock up as they will not get out of white hart lane alive!!! send email to club press.office@tottenhamhotspur.com they will reply but dont say much

Totally agree with all

Totally agree with all coments, but the facts in my opinion are family related and not football related. Robbie married this summer after 6 years with girlfriend, that to me speaks volumes i.e. they are planning a family. Both are good Catholics and Dubliners, and Liverpool is a half hour flight from Dublin, so any babies can be born in their home town and Robbie can get there easily. Added to which the Celtic connection and that Liverpool has a vast Irish population it makes sense. I think it is a family related decision that is spurring Robbie on, (if the rumours are true) and not that he is turning his back on us the fans.
