Will double dutch make perfect sense for Spurs?

Football FanCast guest columnist Daryl Walters feels that Spurs should go Dutch in search of Berbatov’s eventual replacement.

When Dimitar Berbatov finally puts pen to paper at Old Trafford, I think most fans will breathe a sigh of relief. It has been somewhat of an epic that in my opinion has damaged our preparations and sooner we ship him out and move on the better.

The decision as to who we should replace him has had fans split. Some think we should be looking to the high end of the market like David Villa or Roman Palyuchenko, while others have cited Diego Milito or a possible return of Freddie Kanoute. All good players, all available at the right price, I just hope the football club make a move sooner rather than later, because in all honesty it is a farcical that we as a football club have gone from having the League’s most potent quartet to just Darren Bent. It is a ridiculous scenario and done little but jeopardise our Champions League push.

I have to say that my favoured replacement for Berbatov would be either Jan Huntelaar or Ruud van Nistelrooy; the two most prolific strikers in Europe in the last few seasons and both inexplicably available. I find it hard to fathom how Jan Huntelaar is still at Ajax, given his goalscoring exploits and I know a lot of United fans who would rather see him at Old Trafford instead of Berbatov, especially as he will prove some £10m cheaper. As for Ruud van Nistelrooy, I don’t think there is anything I need to say about the man; a proven goalscorer in the Premier League and the most phenomenal goals/game ratio in the business. It is fair to say that Ruud is the wrong side of 30, but for a couple of years he will surely do a job.

What I also find appealing about the duo is the fact that both are no strangers to the 4-5-1 position that seems to be the order of the day under Juande Ramos and therefore the transition will be relatively smooth.

Jan Huntelaar

Ruud van Nistelrooy

So who do my fellow Spurs fans feel we should bring in to replace Berbatov? Would we be wise to go Dutch?

I would take either, both

I would take either, both class acts and will do a job, Van Nistlerooy would be the more likely to come to the Lane as Huntelaar is holding out for CL football.

Huntelaar anyday of the

Huntelaar anyday of the week, sheer class, two footed and as you point out will come at a lot cheaper price than Villa or Arshavin

Kanoute and Arshavin for me

Kanoute and Arshavin for me is the dream ticket up front.

Leave it down to Juande he

Leave it down to Juande he will find the perfect replacement for the sulky bulgarian.

There is no way Ruud would

There is no way Ruud would leave Madrid for Spurs, just as there's no way Madrid would let him go, as he is the only proper striker they have. Huntelaar has said that he doesnt wanna join us and Villa seems happy in Spain. I'd say Levy should dig out the couple of million euros Zenit are asking for Arshavin, plus get a backup for Bent, someone like Milito, though the 10mn rumoured asking price seem a bit steep at 29.

Get them both!!!!!!

Get them both!!!!!!

IT MUST BE HUNTELAAR

IT MUST BE HUNTELAAR NESTLEROOY ARSHAVIN CRUZ CORLUKA CAPEL AND FERDINAND .COYS SORT IT OUT QUICKLY AND THIS WEEK BEFORE WE LOOSE MORE POINTS WITH THIS LOT OF PLAYERS WHO ARE A DISGRACE GET RID OF DAWSON JENAS ZOKORA ROCHA LEE GHALY STALTERI O`HARA AND ANYMORE OF THE DEADWOOD THAT RAMOS HAS MENTIONED , GET PLAYERS INTO THEIR PROPER EFFECTIVE POSITIONS AND GET OUR BEST PLAYERS OFF THE BENCH , WE HAVE STACKS OF CASH TO BUY THE ABOVE MENTIONED SO GET CRACKING CAN`T AFFORD ANY MORE POINT DROPPING ESPECIALLY TO TEAM`S WE SHOULD BE DESTROYING .

JD - you ARE an idiot.

JD - you ARE an idiot.

Huntelaar is a realistic

Huntelaar is a realistic target Van Nistilroy is not. Whilst Huntelaar has openly expressed a desire to play CL footy, that has been to follow in the footsteps of his idol the very same Van Nistilroy that you mention in this article. Van would not want to give up CL footy or the current high wages that he is enjoying nor would Spurs wish to blow thier wage budget apart and invest in any player that would do nothing but depreciate in value. Huntelaar won't cost half as much in the fee or the wages and whilst we will loose him in 2/3 years IF we are not CL by the time his contract is up, he will by then only be 26 and we would be looking at a profit in the market at least.

Fredi Kanoute . Spurs image

Fredi Kanoute . Spurs image has been damaged by the Jol undermining and petty things like not even wishing Keane well for the future . Let alone the hypocrisy that the greedy board are guilty of . I wouldn't be surprised if some players decide to give us a wide birth , especially Dutch ones .
