Southampton PodJockey Matt Brennan feels that Adam Lallana has great potential, but doesn't feel he is worth £5m at this moment in time.

With finance the way it is at St Marys, it is inevitable that players will have to be sold. Adam Lallana is the latest starlet to attract the interest of the Premier League and despite Fulham expressing an interest in the player in the summer; it has now emerged that Spurs could well be favourites to land the £5m rated youngster in January.

August has arrived and its time for football again. It’s Cardiff for Southampton on Saturday and I for one am very excited. Having seen the team play very nice attacking football throughout the pre season I expect a lot from them. They may be young but they have ability. The likes of Schneiderlin, Lallana and Surman can all be key players this season.

Southampton PodJockey Matt Brennan looks back at one of the most uncomfortable days he as ever experienced at St Mary's and feels that Nigel Pearson deserves great credit for keeping the Saints in the Championship.

Sunday was something else. An unbelievable day of tension, excitement and of course indescribable relief and joy as safety was assured. I got to the ground after a hectic train journey down to the south coast and I was shaking like a leaf. I had gone through all the possible ways the day could have ended. All different score lines and results all over the place - my head was pounding. I just wanted the game to start. I needed these ninety minutes of football to finish as quickly as possible. My nerves just couldn't handle it.

Matt Le Tissier - a true Southampton Legend. There will never be a player like him again. Not anywhere. He was majestic - when he got the ball anything could happen. Us Saints fans would become excited - he could always pull the rabbit out of the hat - even at the worst of times, Le Tiss was there to save us. Time after time his goals would keep us in the Premier League. They weren't just any goals though they were always superlative! He cared for the club more than anything and he still does! He was gutted when Sheffield Wednesday equalised on Tuesday night. I had to ask ourselves would our current squad of been just as gutted at the news of Wednesday's late equaliser?

Six and a half years since moving to St. Mary's and we are languishing in the Championship relegation zone. League One is now a very likely scenario. All season we have been debating the reasons as to why the collapse from 8th in the Premiership to this has happened. Could it be the boardroom battles, money issues or quick fire sales of our best players? In a word - possibly but I feel the biggest issue is the fact we had something that every club feared - a wooden, battered old ground - a place where all Saints fans could go on a Saturday afternoon and regardless of the opposition we would sing. We would support our side through anything.
