Football FanCast columnist Jerome Johnstone looks at the conundrum facing Rafa Benitez in finding the best complement for Fernando Torres.

If there was shirt numbers that could have retired over the years at Anfield, then it is the most definitely 7 & 9. Such has been the array of talents that have put on the fabled shirts over the years from Keegan, Dalglish, Rush, Fowler and now of course Fernando Torres. With the number now comes pressure, an added expectation and with No.9 in very safe hands with El Nino, it is vital that Rafa fills the No.7 with similar aplomb.

Football FanCast columnist Jerome Johnstone feels it is time that Liverpool searched for a Plan B.

Football FanCast columnist Stephen Darwin reacts to Martin O'Neill's admission that Arsenal have contacted him about Gareth Barry and wonders which club represents the best career move for the Villa captain.

Gareth Barry must be a tad uncertain about where his future lies at the moment. The England midfielder was clear in his admission that he wanted to join Liverpool but now it seems that Arsenal have entered the race for his signature. Football FanCast columnist Stephen Darwin looks at the return to fitness of Daniel Agger and feels for Rafa and Liverpool, his return must feel like a new signing.

The powerful Dane took up his place in the starting eleven for a friendly against Tranmere and put an end to what must have been a frustrating 10 months on the sidelines. Even if Benitez does manage to land Barry or Keane or possibly both the players at the top of his shopping list, the return to fitness of Daniel Agger will seem like a new signing at Anfield when the new season kicks off in August.

Football FanCast columnist Rob Facey looks at the likelihood of David Villa joining Liverpool next season and wonders whether the Spanish striker could be the final piece of Rafa's Anfield jigsaw.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has identified Spanish star David Villa as the perfect replacement for the Pompey-bound Peter Crouch.

Football FanCast columnist Mark Bryans looks at the latest Olympic call ups and wonders if clubs should be able to prevent them from travelling.

It is undeniable that representing your country is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon you as a footballer. The chance to win or simply compete in World Cups, European Championships and Copa Americas is a chance to become a hero in your country. But what of the Olympics? Do players really want to travel to China to play for their countries? The amateur ethos of the Olympics seems lost when it comes to football and an ‘age-cap' is the only barrier.
