Football
FanCast columnist Rob Facey reacts to Gareth Southgate's
admission that he was under qualified to take over at Middlesbrough and wonders
what the future the holds for the Riverside
club.
Gareth Southgate has admitted that he may have
been a bit too inexperienced to succeed when he took over the job at the Riverside. The former
Boro captain took over from Steve McClaren in 2006 as the club came to terms
with a drubbing in the UEFA Cup after another season of mid table mediocrity.
Football FanCast columnist Luke
Raine takes look back has been a
progressive season for Middlesbrough football club.
As Portsmouth FA
Cup victory brought down the curtain for yet another season, it gives us all an
opportunity to let the dust settle and work out where it all went wrong for our
respective clubs. We at Football FanCast are doing our own review of each clubs
season; and pinpointing all the positives and negatives to be taken from the
2007/08 campaign.
Football FanCast columnist Luke
Raine looks back at Middlesbrough's season and feels that there has been a
great deal of positives to be taken from it.
Middlesbrough's game
against Manchester City on Sunday may well feature last on Match of The Day,
but that doesn't mean it isn't important for the players to give the home fans
the send off they perhaps deserve after a season that has flirted with the idea
of being successful but often flattered to deceive.
Football FanCast
columnist Rob Facey looks at Luke Young's justified criticism of his Middlesbrough team
mates as Gareth Southgate's men hover perilously above to the relegation zone
and asks whether a revamp is in order.
Luke Young has slammed his team mates after seeing
Middlesbrough slide slowly down the league this season and has called for an
immediate response.
Football FanCast guest columnist Ged Peters
wonders if it's inconceivable that Middlesbrough
could be relegated from the Premier League.
If there is one side in the Premier League that has me
completely puzzled, then its Middlesbrough football
club. On their day brilliant, on another totally average, it must have Gareth
Southgate pulling his hair out let alone the supporters.
Football FanCast columnist and Boro fan Luke Raine is delighted at their performances of late and feels a lot of credit must go down to Gareth Southgate who is slowing maturing into a quality England manager.
Now the dust has settled on Sunday's Premier League game at the Riverside, I feel it is appropriate to analyse just why Middlesbrough had so much success against Manchester United at The Riverside. Many fans and pundits will point to the fact that Nemanja Vidic was missing from the side, but I feel that Boro deserve more credit for their performance.
Football FanCast columnist Jim McKendry is perplexed as to how Boro' failed to get anything out of today's game and questions whether the strikers are good enough.
If Chelsea are going to go on and win the Premier League title, then today's victory will be in the thoughts of most fans. A 1-0 victory, three points in the bag and Middlesbrough will be ruing the Chelsea woodwork that prevented the north east side getting a result they so richly deserved.
Football FanCast columnist Luke Raine commiserates over Middlesbrough's FA Cup quarter final exit at the weekend, and wonders just how long it will take Gareth Southgate's men to repay the ‘Boro faithful after missing out on a trip to Wembley, and the possibility of FA Cup glory.
It may now be over 48 hours since Middlesbrough crashed out of the F.A Cup at the hands of Cardiff City, but I am still just as angry. All the optimism which had come out of Saturday's results disappeared in front of Boro fans eyes in the space of 90 dreadful minutes. There are a number of words which could be used to describe the team's performance on Sunday, but not many which could be used in this article.
