Football FanCast is introducing its new ‘hall of fame' which is a celebration of all the great players that have graced pitches in the British Isles in the last 30yrs.

The best thing about football is that is brings people together. For ten months you are locked together in one big family; all sharing the same dreams and hopes that your football club is going to succeed and whether your Southampton or Sutton Utd; those same emotions are replicated throughout.

Southampton PodJockey Matt Brennan looks back at one of the most uncomfortable days he as ever experienced at St Mary's and feels that Nigel Pearson deserves great credit for keeping the Saints in the Championship.

Sunday was something else. An unbelievable day of tension, excitement and of course indescribable relief and joy as safety was assured. I got to the ground after a hectic train journey down to the south coast and I was shaking like a leaf. I had gone through all the possible ways the day could have ended. All different score lines and results all over the place - my head was pounding. I just wanted the game to start. I needed these ninety minutes of football to finish as quickly as possible. My nerves just couldn't handle it.

Southampton PodJockey Matt Brennan has called upon Saints Andrew Surman to seize the moment and save his boyhood club.

Matt Le Tissier - a true Southampton Legend. There will never be a player like him again. Not anywhere. He was majestic - when he got the ball anything could happen. Us Saints fans would become excited - he could always pull the rabbit out of the hat - even at the worst of times, Le Tiss was there to save us. Time after time his goals would keep us in the Premier League. They weren't just any goals though they were always superlative! He cared for the club more than anything and he still does! He was gutted when Sheffield Wednesday equalised on Tuesday night. I had to ask ourselves would our current squad of been just as gutted at the news of Wednesday's late equaliser?

Southampton PodJockey Matt Brennan reflects on the old days at the Dell and feels that St Mary's has failed to recapture that spark.

Six and a half years since moving to St. Mary's and we are languishing in the Championship relegation zone. League One is now a very likely scenario. All season we have been debating the reasons as to why the collapse from 8th in the Premiership to this has happened. Could it be the boardroom battles, money issues or quick fire sales of our best players? In a word - possibly but I feel the biggest issue is the fact we had something that every club feared - a wooden, battered old ground - a place where all Saints fans could go on a Saturday afternoon and regardless of the opposition we would sing. We would support our side through anything.

Southampton PodJockey Matt Brennan feels that maybe its time to move on and give Bradley Wright-Phillips a chance to redeem himself on the pitch.

No one within the club would have been happy with last months reports of Bradley Wright Phillips and Nathan Dyer involved in stealing items from a Bar - and undoubtedly people will still be angry with what went on. Bradley had a few boo's when he came on as a substitute against Coventry and rightly so; it was a sign that Saints fans refuse to condone his behaviour.

Southampton PodJockey Matt Brennan reacts to the Saints 5-0 drubbing by Hull and believes that Saturday's game against Coventry could be make or break in their battle to stay in the Championship.

After a 5-0 drubbing away at Hull, many of us have hit a low point. Is this the first sign that relegation is really going to happen? This was always going to be a tough match but we bottled it. We could have done with two wins in a row but it didn't emerge. Instead we lie two points off the relegation zone and with seven games left I am going to try and give my insight as to where we will end with a look at our run in. Make no mistake about it - this is a very tough run in.

Saints PodJockey Sam Poulton reflects on the current plight of Southampton Football Club and wonders what has happened to the Saints spirit that for so long dominated the red and white army.

Let's not lie about the situation, it is bad, very bad but is it as bad as we think it is? Ok, in seasons gone by we haven't always been in the top division of course, although we did have 27 consecutive years in the top flight not that long ago.

Southampton PodJockey Matt Brennan discusses the possibility of relegation to League One and asks whether any positives can be found from a demotion that no Saints fans want to contemplate.

So we have now reached March and with eleven games left we lie four points off the relegation zone. With Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry both boasting games in hand over the Saints, we could be even closer by the end of the month. Would relegation really cause a doomsday effect at St Mary's?
