One of the most exciting times for a football fan comes when the transfer window opens and clubs start competing for the signatures of their various targets. It’s a time when the rumour mill goes into overdrive and gossip columns are filled with expectant fans hoping to find some truth amidst a seemingly endless stream of unrealistic hearsay.

With this summer’s transfer merry-go-round fast approaching, it’s time to see which players have attracted the most attention from Premier League clubs.
This list looks at 15 players who have already been linked with a number of clubs and qualified as this summer’s most wanted.

Having never played for Arsenal at The Emirates Stadium, ex-Gunner Robert Pires was on the sidelines coaching a group of lucky Indesit Football Talent winners on Tuesday. The former French international sat down afterwards with us to talk all things Arsenal, Robin van Persie and France.

Did it feel good to be kitted out in the Arsenal kit once again today?
Yes I am so comfortable in it. I am happy when I wear Arsenal clothes on my heart.

Is there one particular memory that comes to mind when you think of Arsenal?
I have a lot of happy memories, from Highbury. The last game against Wigan because it was a great occasion and the last ever game!

What was it like on the touchline at the Emirates today?
I played here once, against Arsenal for Villarreal, we lost 3-0. The stadium is amazing of course. Being the manager has much more stress, when you are doing this job, I don’t like it. Not for me, we lost the tournament so I am not happy!

Are Arsenal the club that is still in your heart?
Yes of course, I saw every game; I come here every two weeks to watch the games at the stadium. This will always be the club for me.

Last season was an up and down season again for Arsenal, how did you see it?
It was a good season, they win the first place for the Champions League, but the start was bad for Arsenal. At the end of the season, Wenger is happy, the fans are happy, as next season they will once again play for the Champions League so that is the objective always for the club.

Do you think Robin van Persie will still be here next season?
I hope, yes, for Robin, for the fans, for Arsene. Yes I think it is difficult for everyone because they have the meeting tomorrow for the new deal, so when you take a big decision like this it is very hard. But he loves the club!

Arsenal have already signed Lukas Podolski, is that a good signing?
Yes, very good signing, he can play with Van Persie up front normally, but depends on Arsene Wenger. It is good for Podolski to come from the German league to England, he plays for the national team and has some good experience so I think he is a good player for Arsenal.

The invincible Arsenal side of 2003-04 were voted the best ever in the Premier League, what was that like?
It was amazing, unbelievable, when you finish the championship unbeaten that is a very good job. I am very proud.

What are your thoughts on France going into the European Championships this summer; can they do well under Laurent Blanc?
It is possible for them to win, yeah, Laurent Blanc today has a very good team, a very good young team but with the experience of players like Karim Benzema who plays with Real Madrid who won the league and Nasri and Clichy the same with Manchester City so I think you have a good mix. But we do need more spirit to win this competition.

France v Enlgand, prediction?
I am sorry but I will always have to say France, they will win, no Rooney, good news for France.

Jack Wilshere misses out on the Euros, but do you think he has the quality to have a long career at Arsenal?
I think so, for me he is the best English player. It is my opinion so for me I saw Jack Wilshere and he is a very good.

We saw Villarreal relegated at the weekend, what are your thoughts on your former club?
Oh yes very bad news. Firstly I am very sad because I know the chairman and all of the players and at the moment it is very difficult. They start the season in the Champions League, they play against Manchester City and now they are relegated, so it is very difficult yes, because the players are sad.

A former team-mate of yours, Patrick Vieira works at Manchester City, would you like to do something similar?
Not as a manager no, but something like Patrick maybe yes. One day maybe at Arsenal yes. He has a very good job, it is a nice job and he is very happy I know.

Pat Rice of course left Arsenal last weekend, Steve Bould coming in, how will that change things at the club?
It is a very good idea to chose Steve, he played for Arsenal, he knows the club, he knows some young players like Wilshere and Gibbsy so I think it is very good choice. They will miss Pat, sometimes you need to stop though, you need to enjoy the family and life and for me it was a pleasure working with him.

When you had to come off in the Champions League Final when Jens Lehman was red carded, what was your reaction?
I was sad for the defeat. I was only annoyed for five minutes, but that is part of life, part of football and the responsibility is with the referee not Lehman or Wenger. After the action, they scored so play and let’s got for 11 v 11 and get on with the game. It killed me!

Robert Pires, Daniele Massaro and Gianfranco Zola coached winners of the Indesit Football Talents competition which offered football fans across Europe the opportunity to compete at Emirates Stadium. For more information please go towww.indesit.com/weworkyouplay

Well, after the World Cup of course…and the Champions League…and Domestic Trophies. It seems that after the craziest season ever in English Football, the much maligned European Championships is about as desiring as Alex McLeish and his exciting brand of football. With most International players finishing a 40+ game season, it seems foolish to expect them to be at their best for a tournament that has lost its importance in recent years, especially for England after the disaster of 2008.

Tottenham Hotspur therefore, can be delighted that Younes Kaboul and Kyle Walker will miss the tournament through knee and toe injuries respectively. Of course, the omission of Walker from the England Euro 2012 squad will not help in Ukraine, especially with Glen Johnson having no cover at right back but for selfish reasons, Harry Redknapp and the Spurs faithful will be considering the injuries a blessing in disguise.

Firstly, the omission of both Kaboul and Walker from their respective countries squads allows the Spurs defenders to rest up. With the PFA Young Player of the Year playing an impressive 48 games in all competitions this season and Younes Kaboul playing 41, the two will now have the chance to recuperate and gather their energy levels, whilst others play another month of fast-paced competitive football. Younes Kaboul’s injury is a recurrence of a past knee problem. If chosen in his national Squad, the situation with the Frenchman’s injury could be aggravated and become reminiscent of Tottenham’s ‘man with one knee’ Ledley King. By staying at home and working through their injuries, Kaboul and Walker will be raring to go at the start of next season.

The European Championships is a platform for all players to put themselves in the shop window. With the whole of the continent watching, young talents have the chance to show their talents and raise their profiles with some of the bigger European clubs. Tottenham fans are aware of the abilities of Walker and Kaboul, especially this season where both players have stepped out of the shadows and become regulars in North London. If their performances for their countries match their performances during the regular season, then bids from the ‘Elite’ clubs would undoubtedly come flooding in. Spurs can now sit back and relax in the knowledge that two of their brightest stars will not be able to parade their abilities in front of the cameras again this season.

It could be argued that playing in an International tournament can be detrimental to the development of a player. The flak that England’s players received when returning home from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, was brutal. Although the tournament was a shambles and we were lucky to even escape our easy group, the players did not deserve the negative press that they received when returning to England. If a similar problem arises in this tournament and England once again fail to deliver, the squad will face a barrage of abuse from fans and media alike. For a young player like Kyle Walker, this negativity would deter him from his confidence and his form for Tottenham would distinguish as a result. Younes Kaboul would also have been in a similar position should he have made the French Squad. Les Blues were the only team in the 2010 World Cup that made England’s campaign look successful. Failure to qualify from their group, followed by divides between ethnicities at their training camps and bust ups between Captain Patrice Evra and Coach Raymond Domenech, made South Africa 2010, France’s worst ever International tournament. Although a change of coach has seen an improvement in the fortunes of the men from across the channel, the expectation of their supporters are as demanding as England’s. Should the squad implode as it did two years ago, Younes Kaboul would return to London downbeat and drained.

Whilst everyone in the country will enjoy watching the European Championships this Summer, Tottenham fans will have the biggest smiles, knowing that two of their form players are recuperating from injury and will return next season with their energy levels at maximum.

The veteran forward will have to fight of competition from Karim Benzema, Loic Remy, Oliver Giroud and Kevin Gameiro to make Laurent Blanc’s squad to go to Poland and Ukraine.

However, Saha believes that France have improved under the current coach, and that they can be competitive at the tournament.

“My dream is to get into the squad for the Euros. I am working hard and I know the choice is up to the coach but I will fight until the last moment,” he is reported to have said in Mirror Football.

“We have to believe we can beat England. We know we have to get a result. We know our squad is not inferior to England.

“The victory over Germany has given us great belief. Greece showed in 2004 what is possible at the Euros.

“We want to play at our best because we have a strong squad, and if Greece won in Portugal then we must be up for that challenge.

“We’ve got a young squad and we’re making a lot of progress.

“The World Cup in 2014 could be our moment, but we shouldn’t discount this summer,” he admitted

Fabio Capello’s side will face former European Champions France in a repeat of their clash in the opening stages of the 2004 tournament in Greece that ended in such dramatic circumstances. They’ll also have to take on co-hosts Ukraine in Group D and then Sweden who beat 1-0 at Wembley last month.

The Republic of Ireland, on the other hand, were handed an impossible task with Giovani Trapattoni’s men placed in Group C with current World and European Champions Spain and will also have to pit their wits against tournament veterans Italy and Ukraine.

Group A: Poland, Greece, Russia, Czech Republic.

Group B: Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Portugal.

Group C: Spain, Italy, Republic of Ireland, Croatia.

Group D: Ukraine, Sweden, France, England.

Despite this, there are numerous managers who have tasted success only to find their tenures ending with the triumphs being a mere distant memory.

Whether it be the fans discontent, friction amongst the ranks or just the inability to maintain a strong leadership, these such managers, who should have left with a legacy, left instead with their tails between their legs and their heads held low.

This wasn’t as easy as first thought but here are my Top 10 managers who remained in the hot seat for too long, a list Fergie will never find himself on.

Great footballers have the ability to step up to the plate and produce moments of absolute brilliance that come to define them and their careers. Whether they produce a few seconds of magic that kick starts their career, or a passage of play so glorious that it is what they are forever judged by, it is these moments that we instantly think of when we think of these players.

Of course not all career defining moments are good ones and it is just as likely-despite all you may have achieved within the game-that you will be remembered for one of your more infamous moments. These incidents don’t make them any less of a player, or their achievements any less amazing, it is just that that it is the moment that will always be imprinted on people’s minds and will perhaps overshadow everything else they have achieved in the game.

The feat achieved by Ceni – the third-choice goalkeeper for Brazil during their successful World Cup campaign in 2002 – got me thinking about other extraordinary footballing milestones.
