Elsewhere in the Serie A, Bologna have reached an agreement with Brescia for the transfer of Alessandro Diamanti on a co-ownership deal.

Chelsea might have missed out on Pastore, but they could still secure unsettled Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric after Spurs assistant manager Kevin Bond said the club would sell the Croatian for the right price.

The Blues have already had two offers for the 25-year-old rejected by Tottenham, but Bond said Spurs could be tempted by an increased bid.

“We desperately don’t want to lose him, but everyone has a price,” Bond said.

“The manager has given me licence to express myself. I have never had that before with any manager,” Sturridge told The Independent. “He has given me a lot more freedom than I have ever had and I will enjoy my football a lot more.”

But rivals Manchester City also enquired about the midfielder, only to be told he was more interested in joining English Premier League champions United.

“Sneijder wants to play for Manchester United because of their prestige and tradition, which meant City never really followed up their interest,” Goal.com were told on Saturday.

“City were also put off by Inter’s asking price, which is also a problem for United because of his salary expectations.”

“United have told Inter they will pay 27.5 million euros for Sneijder. Inter have said they want 40 million euros, although they could be willing to sell for 35 million euros.”

Talks have stalled between the parties but it is likely a deal will be reached with new Inter coach Gian Piero Gasperini no longer considering Sneijder indispensable.

If Sneijder makes the move, Inter are likely to make a bid for want-away Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez.

The Argentine’s representative, Kia Joorabchian, was reportedly in Milan on Thursday to speak with Inter officials.

In Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain’s spending spree continues after Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini confirmed a deal to sell Javier Pastore to the French club for 43 million euros.

The Argentine playmaker, linked to clubs in England, Italy and Spain, will join PSG, who were recently taken over by the Qatari Investment Authority.

“(We) closed the deal last night (Friday) around midnight. Basically it’s the official transfer of Pastore to Paris Saint-Germain, based on a 43 million euros (fee),” director of sport Guglielmo Micciche told a French radio station.

The 22-year-old will join Blaise Matuidi, Jeremy Menez and Kevin Gameiro as new signings at the Parc des Princes.

Meanwhile, Juventus are on the verge of signing Roma’s Mirko Vucinic, with a deal in the region of 15 million euros set to be completed on Monday, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Indeed The Times are reporting today that a decision is imminent, with Chelsea still waiting to make their first big summer signing, after so far being frustrated in their chase for Spurs playmaker Luca Modric. Palermo’s sporting director Sean Sogliano confirmed it is now a two-horse race for the 22-year-old Argentine: ‘We have received interesting offers from Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. At the moment we are waiting and will make a decision in the next few days’, he told RMC radio.

However Chelsea’s search for a star playmaker may again be thwarted as reports in Italy have the newly rich French club as hot favourites to land Pastore, with their new director of football, former Milan and Inter coach Leonardo, having close links in Italy: ‘It’s true, I have a good rapport with Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini and everyone would like a player like Pastore’, he confessed at a press conference.

Fulham could also have to travel to Croatia to face RNK Split if they defeat Domzale and Martin Jol’s men knock out Crusaders, who they beat 3-1 in the first leg of their second-round qualifying meeting.

Scottish Premier League club Hearts face a trip to either Hungarian side Paksi or Norway’s Tromso in the first leg of the qualifiers.

Pastore, 21, is reportedly in the sights of Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City, Inter Milan and Juventus after scoring 14 goals in 41 appearances for Serie A club Palermo in the 2010/11 campaign.

His price tag has been set at a hefty 44 million pounds, but the former Hurucan player will ignore speculation while on international duty.

“Going to Palermo was very important for my career and I hope to continue doing well over the next few years,” Pastore told Sky Sport Italia.

“My future will be decided after the Copa America. I will talk with president Maurizio Zamparini and my agent. Then we’ll work out what to do.”

Pastore, currently on international duty with Argentina as they prepare for the Copa America, joined Palermo from Huracan in 2009 for approximately five million euros.

“I feel that the time to leave Palermo has arrived,” Pastore told Fox Sports Radio Del Plata.

The club’s owner Maurizio Zamparini will reportedly demand a transfer fee of close to 50 million euros for a player who has made 69 appearances since his arrival from Argentina’s Primera League.

“Pastore is the only player who could leave. It all depends on the boy,” Zamparini told Sky Sport 24.

“He earns less than one million euros and if a big club offered him four million euros then it would be hard to keep him.”

“Palermo can’t afford that and we have to balance the books.”

“I’ve almost resigned myself to losing him. He speaks to his agent more than he speaks to me and the big clubs want him.”

“It is only logical that he could stay here for just one more season anyway. If he did then it would be with great pressure and it would no longer be the same Pastore.”

While Italian giants Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan, together with Napoli, have all been linked with moves for Pastore, Zamparini believes the player’s future lies away from Serie A.

“I think he is too expensive for the Napoli of my friend Aurelio De Laurentiis,” Zamparini said.

“It will be difficult for the Italian sides to net him. Foreign clubs have bigger transfer budgets.”

“The Spanish game is the one that will suit the talents of Pastore. Real Madrid would only sign him if they sold Kaka.”

Rossi first took the manager position at Palermo in November 2009, guiding the club to fifth in the Serie A standings at the end of the season.

His first tenure at the club came to an end in February after a 7-0 home loss to Udinese. But when replacement Serse Cosmi could not revive the club’s fortunes, Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini re-appointed Rossi to the role.

Palermo’s 3-1 defeat in the Coppa Italia has proved to be the final responsibility for Rossi, with the manager and the club reportedly failing to agree on a new deal.

“President Maurizio Zamparini and coach Delio Rossi met today to review their positions. They decided by mutual consent not to continue their working relationship,” Palermo said in a statement.
