The ‘what ifs’ have been flying round on social media over the past few days with regards to a potential Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea semi-final. Well, the draw has happened and yes, Thibaut Courtois could very well face his parent club. Chelsea have claimed that a clause in the loan agreement with Los Rojiblancos means they would be required to pay a substantial fee if Courtois was to line up against them in a competitive fixture. However, UEFA have since refuted this clause, stating this clause would go against their rulings. The Belgian keeper has been hailed on numerous occasions as the world’s best this season, and it will be intriguing to see how this story unravels over the next week or so. One thing is for certain; Atletico will need Courtois.
