Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has hit out at Southampton about their very public pursuit of centre-back Ron Vlaar.
New Saints boss Ronald Koeman has made it no secret of his desire to tempt the Dutch World Cup star to St. Mary’s,
The 29-year-old is in to the last year of his Villa Park contract and has seen his stock rise significantly since impressing for Holland in the World Cup this summer.
But Lambert has slammed Koeman for his comments on the defender.
He told MirrorFootball: “I feel it’s disrespectful and wrong to talk about other people’s players when they’re still their players. That’s wrong.
“You don’t go public on it – that’s what I had a problem with. It just think it was the wrong thing that was done.”
And Lambert also insists Vlaar is not letting the speculation get to him, which was evident in his performance during Villa’s 1-0 opening day win at Stoke.
“You saw Ron on Saturday, there’s no problems with him, he was fantastic for us,” he added.
“I don’t think anything is preying on his mind.”
