Aston Villa will look to continue their rise up the Championship table when they face Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday evening.

Villa endured a disappointing start to the campaign and after winning just one of their opening 11 Championship fixtures – which left them in relegation trouble rather than pushing for promotion – Roberto Di Matteo was sacked and replaced by Steve Bruce.

The Midlands outfit have been in fine form since then though and are unbeaten in their last seven league fixtures – most recently beating Cardiff City 3-2 at Villa Park last weekend to move up to 11th position, just four points adrift of the play-off positions.

While it is the first league meeting between the two clubs since 2004, they have shared many brilliant goals in the years since the introduction of the Premier League in 1992.

We look back at five of Aston Villa's greatest strikes vs Leeds…

Alan Wright (March 24, 1996)

Left-back Alan Wright wasn’t best famed for goalscoring during his career, but he did score a fine goal in a comfortable 3-0 win for Villa against Leeds in 1996.

Wright was known to get forward to support attacks and when a ball was laid back to the edge of the area, he fired a low shot into the far bottom corner to wrap up all three points for the Midlands outfit.

Savo Milosevic (March 24, 1996)

Is there any better way to score a brilliant goal than in a cup final at Wembley? Well, just ask Savo Milosevic, as that is exactly what he did.

The Serbian striker picked the ball just inside the Leeds half and drove forward. 25 yards out, he shifted the ball on to his left foot before unleashing a fierce strike that flew into the top corner of the net.

Villa went on to comfortably win 3-0 to lift the Coca-Cola Cup.

Benito Carbone (January 30, 2000)

The Italian striker played a key part as Aston Villa beat Leeds 3-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the 1999/2000 FA Cup.

Carbone netted all three goals but his most memorable strike was the equaliser that made it 2-2.

A clearance from a Leeds United defender fell at the feet of Alan Wright, and when the ball was taken from him by Carbone, not many people would have guessed what was to happen next.

The forward took aim and smashed a 35-yard curler into the back of the net. Stunning.

Hassan Kachloul (November 26, 2001)

The Moroccan midfielder wasn’t really known for his spectacular goals, but that is certainly what he produced as Villa picked up a 1-1 draw with 10-man Leeds at Elland Road.

Alan Smith had given the hosts the lead but after the forward was red-carded, it was up to Kachloul to rescue a point for the Midlands outfit, and he did it in some style.

Paul Merson swung in a free-kick and Kachloul produced a brilliant scissor-kick with the ball flying into the back of the United net.

Joey Gudjonsson vs Leeds (May 12, 2003)

The midfielder was on loan at Villa from Spanish side Real Betis, and despite his temporary club going down 3-1 at Elland Road, he scored a spectacular goal in what was to be his last appearance.

The former Iceland international thundered a swerving 30-yard effort past Paul Robinson in the Leeds United net for the equaliser, but late goals from Nicky Barmby and Mark Viduka meant the brilliant strike proved to be only a consolation.
