New Blackburn Rovers manager Henning Berg has been told that he needs to achieve promotion to keep his job, according to The Independent.

The ultimatum has been issued by the clubs' global adviser Shebby Singh, who is keen to see the team return to the Premier League following relegation to the second tier last season.

Berg was unveiled yesterday by the Ewood Park club and with the team occupying fifth spot in the league, Singh insisted that only promotion will constitute success:

"Promotion is the minimum and the maximum, we have emphasised that time and again,

"But the most important thing is that Henning welcomes the pressure, he welcomes the challenge.

“He didn't sit in front of us and say 'I need three years to build a team'. He said 'I know what you want and I want to be the man to deliver that'."

Berg had previously stated that any manager with “credibility” would reject Rovers, but after talking to official figures within the club he backtracked and signed on the dotted line:

"The comments were made by me looking in from the outside," Berg said.

"Now I have spoken to the people inside the club, I know what their ambitions are. They are taking steps now and I've seen their intent."

The Norwegian replaced Steve Kean, who saw the club drop from the top-tier of English football last season.
